VW Scirocco

Always liked these myself. If I ever bought one though it would have to be in Viper Green.

Cheers for the comments so far.

My requirements are:

1) Not too common, slightly unusual looking
2) Fairly economical/cheapish to run
3) Ideally German
4) Still fairly fun/pacey for what it is
5) Good used models available for 8-12k

If anyone has any other suggestions then I'm all ears :)

BMW Z4? :)

As above the 1 series coupe springs to mind, if you are willing to branch out to Japanese / Korean brands also there are some unique and decent options available.

German Options

Audi A1
BMW 1 Series Coupe
Audi A5
BMW 3 Series Coupe
MB CLS
MB CLK
Mini Countryman
Mini Clubman
Mini Coupe
VW Beetle
VW Eos
VW CC / Passat CC
VW Scirocco
VW Tiguan
VW Up

As you can see there are a lot so its worth putting a few more factors in ... from here of course : http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=61877&hilit=+factors

Haha, not quite the economy and cheapness to run I have in mind :)

I'll also add 6) Decent boot space

Clubman S in chocolate brown and black with nav, tinted glass and panoramic roof has also always appealed.

I had a R in for service a few weeks ago mapped to 285. Very nice machine only complaint would be it needs a exhaust as hitting the limiter is too easy in the first 4 gears . Owner said fairly thirsty trip showed 24mpg .. But a really nice car.

I had a 1.4 tsi dsg. Rising blue. Loved it. It wasn't that good on mpg though. I traded it for the z at c 40k miles. You really need pdc as rear view is not great (well I needed it). Looks great in rising blue, white and red. Other colours are boring IMO except viper but I couldn't live with it Tyres on the front lasted over 30k miles and dealer thought the rears were nearly new when I traded it. They were not! It's quite a wide car. I hit the mirrors a few times going in and out garage. I had no problems with a 5 series doing the same. Also clipped a few gate posts and wheelie bins. As already mentioned there have been some engine issues. Only issues I had was the coils went and was hit by an uninsured fox

123d would get my vote as well. Or I'd maybe try to stretch the budget and look for an Alpina D3. Or a 330d coupe.

Having subjected myself to diesels for several years now (all German and all 4 pots). I have to say that another VAG diesel would be way down the list. The engines are more refined than those from Mercedes or BMW but the BMWs are always more powerful and have a more linear power delivery. The VAG units have a lovely initial surge but they really do wheeze as you rev them.

Even as standard a 123d will piddle all over a 170 VAG even with a remap.

Aside from fuel type, whats the difference between the 123d and the 125i coupe in terms of power and rarity. Must admit, I hated the look of these when they first came out but theyre really growing on me.

Not too bothered about performance as such, as long as its fun. Really gone off the styling of the BMWs (Z4 aside) other than the last couple of years, so a 1series or something isnt really on offer.

No idea which colour of these I prefer mind!
