I think we can say this will never happen. But it will keep people interested in VW and the Golf for a little bit longer in the hope they might one day produce it.

Plus the price, how much realistically would they charge probably far too much for a golf that's for sure

Daz?!! I thought you'd be a fan!
Is it just me that thinks this is a very good idea by VW?! I think it looks and performance wise, sounds fantastic.

Tbh Inks I was just going on the pic and headline, thinking nearly 400BHP through the front wheels

Now I've re-read and its 4wd etc, I could be swayed

Apparently it's being shown in Beijing Motor Show this weekend, so we'll soon know if the actual pre-production looks resemble the pre-production dream.

I wonder what the chassis can reasonably cope with. My old edition 30 was rolling roaded at 307. 2 generations of improvements and I guess 400 is within the realms of sane.

Could be a monster...

This sounds an absolute killer car  396BHP ! 0-60 sub 4 sec / 177 top speed / AWD /DSG

No doubt silly cash but on paper it look,s & sounds off the scale for the family hatch . Much prefer the idea of the V6 3.2 turbocharged but this article suggests 2.0 ?

Concept car & think is the same spec engine they had on the concept S3, though agree what a monster - does it go round corners though as per that Top Gear concept test a few years ago?

Latest production S3 has 300bhp but running 400 in a 2.0 must have reliability concerns, but amazing what you can get out of a 2.0 especially when I remember my 2.0 SR Ascona had just over 100bhp in the 80's

I had a play in a golf r end of last year, and i thought it was well built and serious face pulling torque at the low rev band.

This is a nice idea, but end of the day it is still just a golf... Probably a £45-50k golf but a golf!!
