Winter wheels are coming off tomorrow. I have cleaned up the summers and they are ready to have the new Vredesteins put on in the morning... looking forward to getting the summer wheels back on... just need to get through a couple of hundred clicks of slippery tyres, then I should be able to have a bit of fun again :)

Ha, they'll be fun while they're scrubbing in. They can feel horrible in patches while they do though. Fantastic once they're ready - dry grip is impressive, but wet is really impressive.

Nice ellipsoids, probably still my favourite wheel

Yeah, I like the ellipsoids too... was good to be able to clean them up properly, although I couldn't find anything that gets rid of the black stuff they stick the weights on with... that stuff is really nasty!

Had a look at removing that stuff before... horrid. Goo Gone seems to be popular, but needs patience. Others use rubbing alcohol and I've had some success with tar remover, time and elbow grease... but it is very hard work.

If it's what I am thinking it is WD40 will remove it.

Getting my Vreds fitted on Friday, then straight off to the Moffat run :?
Looking forward to trying something different after several years on Falkens.

Just be careful for the first few hundred miles with the Vreds. You will immediately feel a 'softer' drive, no tram lining etc, but you will feel that the steering is very light at speed, and you will wonder if you have made the right decision. Do not worry, as they will soon bed in, and they are fantastic. :driving:

Autoglym Intensive Tar Remover does the job for me.

Well just spent the weekend hooning around on the Vreds and despite them having less than 100 miles on them at the start of the run they performed brilliantly, quieter than the Falkens and much better grip well worth the bit extra IMO.

This thread is like groundhog day, every morning I log on and the title is there in my unread posts!!

Really RichardG?? Your vreds had better grip than your Falkens after 100 miles? Im never buying Falkens then
Not quite what I meant, everyone has stated that they take around 300 miles to scrub in and at the start of the run on Sat morning they had less than 100 miles on them. I never experienced any of the moments others have commented on and certainly by the end of the run I felt they were offering more grip than Falkens did and certainly inspired more confidence to press on, in me anyway.

Interestingly my first set of Vreds were slippy as hell for quite a while before they scrubbed in.... this set seem to be pretty good straight away though.

Just puts some new rears on they seem to be good from the off. Good tyre, 100x better than the standard Continental's imo.
