So with our great little Hyundai Getz getting older and being called upon more often, we're finding the 1.1 engine a little more strained for all the uses we place upon it (even with the 38k low miles).

As such we're looking for a similar replacement. At first we looked at a small family hatch but have decided to stick with a supermini as it still ticks all our boxes. We have however decided we really need an auto (for all that around town driving). As the smallest of the 3 cars in our household the supermini gets called upon for all short journeys, shopping trips and small family outings. As such the car rarely sees motorways or roads over 40mph but must be capable of decent runs around London (up to 45 min trips) in stop start, potholed and speed bumped areas.

We have decided it must be:
Under 5 years of age
A proper auto (CVTs need not apply)
Frugal
Easy to park
Prestige enough for the family but not so much so that we will worry when parking it at the supermarket.
Budget of no more than £9k

So we've come up with the 6R DSG most likely 1.4 (85bhp)
Does anyone have any experience or this setup or any other alternatives?

As a massive autobox fan i didn't take to the VW DSG GTtdi we had , thought the box was awful TBH  & factor in you would have to run a warranty alongside it @£450ish as these boxes can be prone to expensive problems  ie you cant repair them & £2500 is cost to replace
The tiptronic box i had in a 1993 aircooled 911 was much sharper & responsive .
Have you tried one ?

Honda Jazz do an auto
+ 1. The LCI in the current Jazz made the change from CVT to 6 speed auto and also the rear seats fold flat, We managed to fit a full size dining table and chairs in the back. Its like a small van when you need it to.

Having driven and been in several cars with DSG and other similar variants I found them rubbish - massively jerky at low speeds and not nice to drive.

I'm not sure why you'd exclude CVT's although they're rare so you won't find them in many cars - but the one in my K11 Micra is excellent.....

We got my mrs a 1.0 turbo ecoboost fiesta at beginning of the year

Wont be able to get one sub 9k but you can at least have a few fiestas to look at

Genuinely, genuinely probably the nicest car ive driven, more fun than the ///m cos its just so chuckable, so light, easy to park, the 1.0 turbo is a sweet engine!

Seriously, take a look.......they're brill, and if u can go for the ecoboost engines
