Hi everyone,

I'm having trouble with voice control. It works fine for phone calls "dial number" etc. But any other commands it doesn't understand. When I bought the car, the guy at BMW said the voice control can be used to select music stored on the cars hard drive and can be used to put a destination in to the navigation etc, but it doesn't seem to understand anything. I've checked the manual for commands and they don't work. I've tried saying "voice commands" to bring up all possible commands, but it doesn't even understand that!

Am I doing something wrong? Or is this common? Or is it just broken?
 
If you have iDrive then voice control should take complete control of it. If you don't have iDrive, then voice control works just a pre recorded phonebook I believe.
 
Your car sounds like mine. I do not have 'Voice control' option specified (but do have Connectivity and I drive).

It seems like you get 'free' voice control on the phone book anyway, but not 'Full Voice Control'.

(check the spec of your car and maybe get a little cash back?? if you thought it was something that you were getting).

Don't fret though, I had full voice control on my coupe and it's absolute crap :roll: anyway!

Mine gets commands wrong from time to time but I love the feature and it builds speech into the BMW online function so it reads news etc to you!

Oh yeah, that's another thing. I downloaded the Wiki app and it says it reads out historical info to you but can't see that option. Maybe Zed Five is right - it might only be activated for the Bluetooth but not the whole car. Shame :(
 
Don't have voice control in z4 but have it in 325 coupe and it works fine, is it definetly the professional with voice control
Best to check with dealer original spec, if so ask for a demo in your car :thumbsup:

Yeah it is. Annoyingly the dealership is in Brighton and I live in Milton Keynes - so a 3 hour drive.

Just go to your local dealer. I assume that they will want your business in the future, so they will oblige.
