Voice control retrofit

Hi all,

I've done a quick search on the forum but not found the answer...

Has anyone tried / is it possible to retrofit voice control? Does it require a different bluetooth module to the standard one or is it an additional component? Anyone know where to get it and if it's an easy job?

It depends upon which ULF module you have fitted. There are 13 models since first released and only the later ones support voice. You handbook shoudl tell oyu how to use it if it's fitted.

I have retrofitted bluetooth on my Z4 and X5 and have voice on them but having set it up for the hell of it can't remember having ever used it on either. Stick with what you have and save the £200 (less sale of yours) for the new module
 
I believe it was actually a coding option on the ULFs, so the hardware is there on all but you need a special cable to i-bus and navcoder or something like that which unlocks it.

I know when I was looking at ULFs a few mentioned that this was activated on the unit which confirmed it for me, IIRC. I have a 12th gen, with Voice.
 
I press the button on my steering wheel, it beeps and I wonder what it does. I can't find much reference to it in my manual.

I think I did something to my nav with it once by accident!! Bit pointless IMO. :)
 
You should be able to activate it using navcoder, I did it on my old E46 330cd and never really used it so i haven't bothered in the Z. My Z has a newer UFL so i'd assume it would work.

Would using that invalidate the warranty? Is it immediately obvious that it's been used to change anything?

And, if it can just be enabled by coding I presume that's something that a stealer could do and will charge 6 hours for, evidently for connecting a laptop and clicking a couple of buttons?

They would never know, you can always disable at later, I used it to allow tv in motion and enable VR in my pervious car, never used any of these functions once i done it.
All you need to do is hook up you PC to the CD changer cable using an interface and code VR, seeing as the CD changer is pretty difficult to get to in the Z (done it once to install my intravee) I can not be bothered to do it again.
