Visiting Munich - what BMW related activities to do?

So the girlfriend and I are doing a Euro trip in July-August with the final destination being Munich. There's obviously one reason for that: BMW HQ! Our main interest is the factory tour and I guess we'll have a quick run around BMW Welt as well, but I figured I should see if you guys have any further recommendations?

We really love the idea of hiring an i8 for 100 euros per hour (primarily because it's the car we'd be least likely to get to try out at home), but the prospect of apparently usually congested autobahns and unfamiliarity with left hand drive leaves me a little trepidatious. I thought that I'd heard that you were able to hire such cars for use on a "test track" but I've not been able to find any info on anything like that from BMW.

So, any suggestions? We're also open to suggestions for other things to see and do in Munich - we're there for 3 nights. Obviously the famous beer halls will be one stop ;)
 
Well Munich is right down south in Germany and very close to the Alps. A trip to Innbruch might be nice, its about a 2 hour drive and you would get to see very different topography.

But sorry, I don't know the south, only lived up north.

Oh, and have a great trip!
 
Just be sure to book the factory visit as soon as you can, very limited numbers. Next door to the Olympic stadium and gardens, nice for a picnic.

Yeah that would be awesome, but going that far will blow the budget a bit. It's hiring by the hour remember ;)

This is a great idea, as the girlfriend is really keen to see the castle! Even better, we discovered that between 9-5 you pay for a maximum of 3 hours, so the i8 would be $300 Euros. That's still a little expensive though, so we had a better idea: an M4 convertible which is only 180 Euros!
 
I don't know if Munich is applicable but you might need to buy an emissions sticker for your car to enable you to drive in town.

Planning to do as little driving in Munich itself as possible but will keep it in mind ;)
