Vinyl wrapping the dash

At first, I was undecided between 5d carbon fiber vinyl and piano black, but now I've decided to go a different route. I'd like to vinyl the rest of the wood grain dash to match the steering wheel and door handles. Does anyone know of a vinyl that is going to match it? If I can't find a vinyl to match, then I'll just do everything in 5d carbon fiber

I prefer not to buy an aluminum dash trim as this would be significantly more expensive than just wrapping it in vinyl. I'd like the ability to reverse in a few years time.
 
1st of all i dont blame you for wanting to wrap that dash, never liked the idea of wood in cars.

no idea on which wraps etc will help but i am also thinking of 5d carbon fiber wrapping my interior (currently have brushed aluminium but it has a few marks on it which really annoys my OCD :headbang: )

and as always, i really hope you do a video tutorial for this as i have a feeling it will help a lot of people wanting to do this, and ive read that there's a lot involved in removing the center section and dash etc so defo looking forward to watching a video before attempting it myself :thumbsup:
 
i can't lie their something .... just something that i love about the wood trim!! lol! it goes against everything but everytime i see it, i think..... i kinda like... its my guilty secret!

That is certainly a guilty pleasure lol, I just can't get the point in having wood in a car lol, maybe it's just me tho :/
 
I've been looking for a satin aluminium/titanium finish to match the steering wheel and door grips.

The 3M colour is too light (white satin aluminium) as ours is more of a tinted aluminium tone.

For me that's why the wood dash clashes - they didn't follow through and match it with any other panels.
 
Yeah I think if they had done either all aluminum or all wood grain then it would be better. I just don't like how there's aluminum for the handles and steering wheel, and then wood grain dash for the rest of the pieces. I don't want it to look out of place and to be two different types of aluminum. I always did dig the piano black dash though, so its a tough decision between everything.. also piano black will show imperfections like nobody's business which is why 5d carbon fiber I think is a good choice.
 
Wood is certainly a marmite finish. I wrapped mine in Vinyl a couple of years ago. One day I might go back to it.

One practical downside of the wood finish is the reflection of the sun off the hi gloss finish when the top is down - it can be blinding.
 
Can you explain why so much of the rear console has to be removed in order to remove the trim? Looks like the most difficult part of the job is removing that center console trim piece, and maybe the clip behind the glove compartment (although that seems simple once you find it)
 
The trim is bolted to the centre console from underneath so the whole centre console has to come out to remove it. You can't get the centre console out without removing the centre section of the rear console. It's not that difficult really, just a bit of a chore.
 
I see, that's pretty annoying for me because my rear center console is slowly falling apart. And I have a wind deflector that's permanently attached between the hoops so its not easy for me to remove that piece. I wonder how impossible it will be to do a good vinyl job without removing that trim piece and just tucking the vinyl underneath.
 
Just took a look and it is impossible to wrap effectively without removing the trim, and removing the trim truly requires the entire center console out. So it looks like I'm at a dead end because I don't want to remove the rear center console again since its falling apart already. Will just have to suck it up and enjoy the wood grain dash. Don't fix what isn't broken right? :roll:
 
I like the wood as well as something different- would have been easier to get alu trim but goo effort in the work done.
