Vines - service worry

My inspection 1 is not due for 6k miles, but I wanted the oil / brake fluid changed as well as the MOT today.

So got the call - "you are due an instpection 1 according to the service schedule as the last service was an oil service. Shall we do it now?"

Hmm, will have words when I pick up the car as I am not sure how they were planning to do the shims as I only dropped the car there this morning. Not to mention why I would want to do an inspection I 6k miles early either.

Didn't they check the mileage and so on when you dropped it of this morning PVR?

Or do you think they are doing it as it's four years old.

... but the Insp1/2 etc are not time based for the M as far as I can tell, they're dependent upon mileage. Brake fluids are (2yrs), and good idea to change engine Oil regularly.

Mileage is on the key, so they would have seen it when I checked it in. It seemed to be a straight case of "last service was oil, and after oil is an inspection 1".

I am doing what I think you were doing as well - i.e. do the oil and brake fluid as it is due because of age, and wait for the mileage counter to reach the inspection due. Told them not to reset the counter either.

They noticed I took pictures of all sides of the car when I dropped it in as well, including close ups of the wheels. Hopefully they will get the hint ...

I'm aware of that but dealers seem to want to follow the two year principle, can't think why the robbing bastards.

PVR - In the end I did get and inspection 1 done at 4 years as I was only around 7k short and at £199 for it was cheap anyway and trying to sell should stop any issues with "it's not been done by the book" even though it would have been.

But in your case I would just to the oil, are you going to ask how they were going to check the shims?

You think the service advisor knows what shims are?

My Inspection 1 would be a lot more then yours so I am not jumping to bring that forward by a year ...

I will have a chat with my sales guy(s) over there who I know very well. Although they are starting to disappoint me as I still have not had a test drive in a X5 40d even though I told them I wanted one when it came out.

I agree with you on all the above, which is why my new purchase was from Chandlers in Brighton.

Dont think half of these nuggets know the difference between say a standard 2.0 and an M.
I have found most of the people in my local stealers have less product knowledge than me,ie reversing sensors come painted from BMW direct.
Tried explaining this to the guy behind the desk the other day but he was adamant that he would need to arrange to get it painted locally.
I insisted he went and checked, came back 2 mins later looking a wee bit sheepish. As i said NUGGETS   :headbang:

Depsite me telling them not to, they reset the service counter to show "oil service" in 15kmiles. Now I have to manually calculate when the Insp I is due then ... :x

(Slightly OT) how much was insp 2 with murketts Playa? They've quoted 925 which is the best but still utterly painful (just got engaged so spent enough on shiny things lately!)

I steered him to Murketts. Mine was £825 all in + £25 for the useless tyre sealant that you are supposed to replace every Inspection II. Mind you I got discount as the car was 4yrs old and VAT was 17.5% then (July 2010)

 Same here, I also had coolant and geo done at the same time. Plus a little bit of warranty work too. My quote was pre-VAT increase but I actually had the work done post-VAT and the price was the same so big thumbs up from me.

Congrats on the engagement TJ!
