I went to see an E85 3.0i yesterday and it is in clear need of TLC. The car has a 'full' service history from a local independent garage....
I went to view with the knowledge the roof does not work, so that had been factored into the asking price. However there are further issues which would need addressing. The car has 102k miles on the clock.
- Valve cover gasket needs replacing, visible seepage around the valve cover.
- Oil filter housing gasket. Same as above.
- Wheels, 17" turbine style. Curbing as expected but also some relatively bad corrosion where the lacquer has gone completely.
- Both the auxiliary belts are cracked and need replacing.
- Lips to all discs, not 100% of thickness so may be o.k.
- No evidence of water pump replacement.
- A audible whine at speeds between 20-40 mph. Potentially a wheel bearing.
- Other cosmetic imperfections, in-line with the age and mileage of the car.
Now I've listed the above out, it sounds like I should avoid this with a barge pole. However on the flip side if there are relatively few additional surprises, I could end up the piece of mind that all the preventative maintenance has been carried out and be trouble free for the foreseeable future.
With the roof motor replaced and relocated to the boot, wheels refurbished, and a good DIY session over a few weekends I'm half tempted.
Am I bonkers?
