very strange door just opened on the move.

Ok have i got a ghost passenger or some thing wrong?

It happened twice today while driving on the M6 about 70 mph, suddenly the passenger door window drops a little and door opens slightly only notice it because of the suddenly wind noise difference, had to pull over and pull the door shut.

Didn't notice any bumps in the road and wasn't going particularly fast or driving unusual no windows open so strange.

Any ideas?
 
Perhaps the door was only just fully closed. A slight jolt or change in air pressure as speed builds up was enough to cause it to come off the latch, triggering the window drop and light.

Maybe the catch just needs adjusting to make sure the door closes properly.

I bet it was pretty unnerving at the time though. :o
 
Thats what i thought but i slamed the door quite firm after the thirst time so may be the latch needs adjusting.Did make me jump a bit
 
Don't worry ..... that will be Harry.
It's a common occurence on the M6 ....... seems that sometime around 1992 Harry leapt to his death from a speeding car in the outside lane.
Phantom Harry's have been reported on a regular basis ever since .............. :D
 
2 different things here I think:

If the door just pops open it's the latch needs adjusting. Did it on mine one on a bump. Adjusted the striker and never happened since.

If the window drops first, then it's the lock being activated, trigerring the window and lowering it as the door opens.
 
Out of interest do you lock your doors once in the car i used to press the central locking button on centre consul once in my car but i now have the anti car jack activated so the doors lock after 5mph including dead locks
 
Yes i did lock the central locking after the first time it happened so its either harry or electrical.

That is a strange one scary to i would be tempted to tie something to the interior door pull so at least you can pull it shut form the drivers seat if it happens again.

Maybe a glich somewhere causing the car to unlock the doors i had a strange one this morning drove away to see the warning light for my gearbox lit so pulled back onto drive turned off car for a few mins then went for a carefull drive drove for two hours never came on again and the auto box seemed fine i have done a battery reset to see if it clears things and will give her a run in the morning
 
This just happened to me, drivers door while doing m way speeds. Door goes onto the safety catch.

Both sound like a nuisance. Harry is less likely. Have you adjusted the catch?

I seriously doubt it's electrical...the lock is electric but the door release is mechanical. In My humble opinion, either a ghost is pulling the lever or the latch adjustment is allowing a flex movement of the door to allow the striker to pop free of the latch. Mark the latch with some chalk or something and see where the contact point is. Then check the opposite door and adjust accordingly.

Off topic- but this is a aler key recode...not something you can do yourself?
 
this to happen to me, the door would just open, not fully but onto the safety catch, i adjusted the latch and its ok now not done it again in 8 months.

i always think doors should be locked whilst driving round town but unlocked on motorways
