Vehicle history from a dealer

Hey guys,

Bought myself a 53 plate z4 roadster last month with full BMWSH and I'm in the process of piecing together what work, other than regular servicing, has been undertaken.

Rybrook BMW kindly gave me a list of when and where the car has been. However when contacting one of the dealers on the list (Chandlers) they'll only release info of servicing, but nothing else unless I have written consent from the owner at that time...

I understand it's down to data protection, but wondered whether any of you have encountered this and if so, did you find a way around it?

Seems it's the norm for most dealers, but the DPA is only an excuse, as they could tell you what was repaired/fixed without giving out the name, address, credit card number of who it was done for and it would simply be anonymised data - or simply print out the invoice, cover the personal details and photocopy.

Unfortunately the only way around it is to write to the previous owners to ask - but they may not be bothered either. Personally I hand over all my invoices/bills when the car goes - if they don't get passed on to a subsequent buyer then I'm unlikely to remember what was done when, and you never get an invoice/job sheet for anything done on warranty wanyway.
