Vegas - Car Hire?

Following on from my last vegas thread, it would appear quite a few folk on here have been a few times. So, I am trying to work out if a hire car is necessary. We are staying at The Signature at MGM. We will need to travel to the starting point for a helicopter tour of the GC, Las Vegas Speedway (driving a F430GT race car & Maclaren with Dream Racing :driving: ) and the airport at Boulder City for skydive. I have absolutely no idea where any of these places are in relation to where we are staying. So, to those in the know, would I be better using cabs or will it be easier/cheaper to rent a car?

No issues with that. Spent the majority of the beginning of the year in Brazil and spent 2 weeks driving around France in the summer :thumbsup:

However, I intend to indulge quite excessively in the cheap American Lager and (not so cheap) Champagne, so the car would only really be used on the OP occasions. For everything else we'd utilise public transport as best we could. Although....a car would probably be useful for shopping trips. Hmmm.
 
You dont need a car in vegas, taxis eveywhere .....
But ............

If you are in vegas then you need to hire a new mustang or corvette ..... They are cheap as chips .....
Oh yes ,,,,,,, and if you have time, theres loads of trips to make, hoover dam etc ........

....... I was pulled in a corvette in the desert and asked politely to keep it below a hundred haha :D

I couldn't find a corvette for hire other than Hertz and the wanted north of £400 for the week.
 
Tricky one really, if you stay in and around the main strip and Freemont Street theres definitely no need for a car (ours stayed in the hotel car park) just use cabs, the monorail thing or the frequent tourist buses. The Canyon helicopter flight did a hotel pick up for us. But as you have some trips away from the strip to get to your venues it may be worth getting a car. Best google maps where exactly you need to get to and decide from that. Note: Be aware with drinking the large free drinks in the casinos at night to be cautious of driving next day under the influence! (yes free drinks, just tip the waitresses and they come back again and again)
 
Easty-5, after skimming through your previous posts on LV if you're used to Florida (as we were) it takes a bit of time adjusting as Its very full on especially out and about and service is not as good/genuine as Florida. As I said earlier free drinks in casinos just sit on a 25 cent fruit machine for a while and the waitresses find you. Food usual fast food prices. Its a great place but very different (trip to Freemont street for the roof lights screen show was great too) :)
 
never been sober enough in Vegas to get a car.

there used to be a hire place right on the strip with some American muscle for hire, but it was gone when I was over a few weeks ago... not sure if it's just moved, or gone, gone...
 
Hired a car for a day through a desk in the hotel to go out to the Hoover Dam, other than that you don't need a car. As others have said most of the "out of the way" things like helicopter rides offer hotel pick-ups and for the rest just use a taxi.
 
The only time I went to Vegas the hire car stayed in the hotel parking lot for the two days that I was there.
