vanos

Though I'm sure I don't need this done as engine ticks over like silk and goes well but how much does it cost to have a new service kit done on the vanos on a e85, mine is a 2003 with 61000 miles.

Not done it on my car yet but read plenty of threads about the tricks used for easy access which seems to be the main issue. If you are paying to get it done will probably cost a fortune as I doubt garages will be clued up enough to overcome access issues.
Someone will probably be along and give you a better heads up

I am an advocate of doing this

Reality is that when you get the seals out they are always goosed… and that decline is so gradual over 22+ years you’d not notice it until you refresh them

Ironically I always ‘felt’ the biggest difference on the 2.2 engine when replacing them. But whatever the low end, top end and mpg will be improved

Absolutely agree with this.
Don't expect a sudden surge in power or anything like that. Just everything starts to feel as lot smoother after about 100 miles or so while the DME gets used to it. Wifey's 2.5i now gets an extra 1-2 miles per gallon.

Am I right in thinking this is not the case for a later N52 engine, because the seals were changed and so this is no longer an issue? Is there any other preventative VANOS maintenance I should do on a 2009/55K miler?

It’s worth pulling the vanos solenoids and the non return valves and giving them a good clean every so often

Is there still someone on this forum that will do the vanos seals ? or a good link to how to do them.

If there is no clearance at all, and you can’t gain 1-2mm by leveraging the crossmember away, if you pop the near side engine mount bolt off and jack the engine up that side you will clear it

Very similar to how you do the water pump
