Vanos Rebuilds? Who does them

Most people (and mechanics too I guess) do it themselves.
If you're handy enough to remove the vanos, you can also put new seals in imho

There's also a Dr vanos.
 
My BMW Indy is changing my Vanos seals and bits next week, I think any good BMW Indy or specialist should be able to do it.
 
sorry for thread hi Jack. Is the Vanos a regular service item or do it when you notice a failure? Is there a how to guide on how to remove anywhere, I assume its seals and solenoid replacements that's required. Whats the estimated timeframe to change i.e. when should they be changed, and a rough idea on how long it would take to change would be great.

Are they on all engine types? I have a 3.0si. 2008

They gave me Part Number 11361440134 @ £407? Vanos unit.

There's a place near me that does it - Corten Miller. Pretty good place, had a car chipped there previously. My local indy has been in contact with them after I asked him about replacing the seals etc on mine (another preventative step).

If you find a competent indy, perhaps they could give Corten Miller a ring to arrange for delivery of the kit?

Just do a site search and you will find lots of info on this, also videos on you tube. Original Vanos seals are nitrile and wear quickly (20,000 miles?) the replacements are viton and more suited to the job. Most users do not even notice, as the result is just a slight inefficiency of the variable valve timing (German acronym = VANOS). Lots of cars have the original seals still in place past 100,000 miles with happy owners unaware of a small loss of this VVT.

Think you will find it's not on your car, mine is an E85 SE so I will leave it to the Si owners to confirm for sure.
