Using Netflix abroad

 An Englishman Abroad.
I have just cancelled Sky movies got fed up paying £16 a month and hardly ever watching it. But still wanting to watch films without having to buy or rent DVDs I am thinking of subscribing to Netflix, while looking at it I stumbled across this website http://www.viewtvabroad.com/watch-netflix-abroad-outside-us.html and as I spend most of my time outside the UK I thought it looked like a good idea.
Has anyone used this service or one similar to it?
Or would it be easier to set a VPN (even though I have no idea how to it)

What about SkyGo / anytime+ I think this works outside the UK? Although not sure if there is an additional charge for access abroad

Hey,

I use Netflix in Iceland all the time without much hassle. There are two services that I use: playmo.tv and unblock-us.com (neither of them are restricted to Netflix and work on more services, such as Hulu). The latter one has a $4.99 CAD subscription fee and is available for a plethora of devices, while the other one is free while in beta and available to a limited amount of devices. I use it on my phone, on my laptop and on my TV. It's very easy and quite useful. :)
 
These things generally work by setting up a UK proxy which you can do for free (but with variable quality) if you are clever, or for a few quid a month by subscription if you are not.

I doubt SkyGo works abroad...Sky won't....there are licensing issues around watching UK telly abroad, which is why the usual iPlayer and other TV sites are inaccessible outside the UK.

And as Andysat rightly points out, many european internet services have extremely measly download caps....in SW France we pay 79 euros a month for satellite broadband (mainly for wifes work) but it only has a 25Gb download limit. Landline based internet isn't much better, but is much lkess widely available than in the UK.

There are ways to access Sky in Europe but it requires having a current subscription in the UK and second room viewing. Thats all I'll say. 8)
 
my friend has netflix and set up his to work on a US proxy address as this gives access to ten times the amount of films etc
 
SkyGo is blocked abroad, but you can download films etc as anytime+ and watch 'off-line'. Same with BBC iPlayer (for BBC programs). Or just buy something like an Archos and store films on that?

I thought iPlayer makes them self destruct after a period though? It certainly used to only give you 3-4 weeks to watch something even after downloading it...
 
Yep, they're not permanent downloads on iplayer or sky+ anytime; they disappear after a few weeks ( days for some ). Hence something like Archos may be better?
