USA Road Trip Ideas?

I am toying with the idea of a US road trip next year or maybe the year after that. Any advice for 2 - 3 weeks covering the best driving roads with the best scenery and not too many police or cameras would be good. Even better if it had intersting stop offs.

Unfortunately it wonlt be in the Z but a suitably interesting hire car

I'd love to do a US road trip myself. After seeing Billy Connelys Route 66 program on the BBC i'd like to do something like that - cheesy i know

My brother in-law has done the old Route 66 trip in a hire car and thoroughly loved it - recommends it to anyone who listens! Plus you can de-tour to Vegas :-)

A few years ago, I did route 50, the Loneliest Road, from San Francisco to Chicago via the Grand Canyon and Salt Lake city. An epic journey with some truly outstanding roads and scenery, the majority of which is single lane highway.

Before planning my trip, I purchased a great book called Road Trip USA by Jamie Jensen, which details lots of different routes

mason storm, a couple of questions?
1. What time of the year are you thinking about making the trip?

2. Is there anything(s) in particular that you were interested in seeing/visiting during your trip?

might be helpful to know which side of the country you had in mind.

Over on the west coast we have a beach drive from California to the tip of Washington state (HWY 101) that is awesome.

Oh...this trip in Washington was fun and took me three days which included camping and checking out sites
