Urgent Tyre Help - puncture

Unfortunately I seem to have a slow puncture in my near side rear :( Fortunately there is only about 1mm of tread left so needed replacing soon anyway. (Strangely there's more like 3mm on the other rear. I'm guessing one may have been replaced at a different time, maybe due to a puncture again)

Problem is its losing losing around 8psi/day, so I want to get it replaced as soon as possible and not drive around on it too much. Therefore I haven't got a lot of time to research into the best tyre and price combination etc (which I normally like to do) and may have to go with whatever I can get locally.

My local garage which I used several times with my 350Z and did a good job, only list the following:

Pirelli Pzero Asims £174.75
Continental Conti Sport £175.50
Michelin Pilot Sport £242.10

It doesn't say which the conti-sports are, but i'm guessing there not the 'M3's, just regular CS3's. If so are they any good? I had PZero Asims on my 350Z and liked them, though not as good in the wet which worries me with the Z4M. I've never had Michelin's but are they worth that much extra?

I've also had and liked in the past Goodyear F1 GSD3's, and Toyo Proxes T1s, and have also read good things about the Vredstein Sessanta's, though getting them and fitting them is another matter - nobody seems to list them.

One other thing confusing me is the use of different size tyres both in width and profile. I've seen posts referring to using 265s instead of 255s - what is the implication of this and is there any downsides to doing this. I always thought if you altered the profile (35/40 etc), then it caused your speedo/milometer to be inaccurate.

If anyone knows of any good garages/suppliers in the Solihull/Birmingham area please let me know.

I went with some Contisport M3 which are the OEM tyres, i was advised not to mix fronts and backs even...this came from a few different sources so there might be something in it.
There is a table in that thread which shows how much your speedo will be out if you go for a different size.
The profile height is the % of the width eg 255x40 means the profile is 40% of 255mm in height.

try balck cirlce on-line - they;ll come to you and cheap as chips !

Or if you're in the essex area Elite are the mutts nuts.

Only 1mm of tread left. That should have been changed ages ago as it became illegal at 1.6mm and really should have gone at 2.0mm

Tyresales in Shenstone (my local guys) are as good as they get if you want a traditional garage and careful work.

Aside them any internet supplier and if you take the fitted option the tyres will be sent to a local fitter who'll do them for you

Well maybe 2mm :D It went in for a service 3 weeks ago, and they listed them all as 3mm, but the one is definately less than the other.

Tyresales are my local garage too, the one I quoted prices for.

I'm thinking I'll play it safe and stick with the Conti's if I can get them for a good price.....

Personally I'd ditch the RFT's and fit a full set of Falkens for the same price as a pair of Contis. Did it on mine as have many others.

Do a search on Falkens and it's all on the board

I use Event Tyres, they are mobile and have been to my house, they'll visit work too.

Excellent job, no marking to rim and very polite with courtesy calls for eta.

They were they cheapest place when I replaced a Bridgestone runflat on my Coupe at Chritmas.

They're not RFTs its an ///M :P

Blackcircles and etyres seem cheapest for the Conti M3's but ill have a look at Event Tyres as well - thanks

Get Vredesteins at http://www.camskill.com - best value for money vs performance wet and dry IMHO

Plus they're a wee bit cheaper than most so you'll get the benefit of saving a few quid in the long run (when you change again etc).

My local specialist got them in for me for more or less the same price as camskill so ask about, you'll be surprised who can get them.

Dang C10,,,,I thought you would have known that the //M's do not come with RFT tires, and the largest Falken 452 is a 245 which is smaller than the standard 255 mounted on the front of our Z's. :P

Yep - wasn't even looking at the model.

Are you replacing both rears or just one? If you're doing just the one, then you'd best go for the same as the other side to match them up.

There's two Continental SportContacts in this size, one is the SportContact M3 (the BMW one), and the other is a SportContact 3 M0 (Mercedes one).
The Mercedes one has a stiffer sidewall (95Y load rating) compared to the BMW one (91Y load rating).

The only PS2 I can find in this size is an XL (Extra Load) one which again means stiffer sidewalls (99Y load rating).

Don't know if the stiffer sidewall will be a benefit to you or not, but it might mean a bit more road noise & vibration comes through the chassis.

Prices don't seem bad if they include fitting and VAT.

(info from TyreTraders)

They also list the Goodyear F1 GSD3s, Dunlop Sport Max, Vredestein Ultrac Sessantas, and some others - nothing else with a 91Y load rating though.

If you go wider, to 265/35r18, then you can find the PS2s at around £210, Falken FK452 for £110, or Kumho KU31 for £110. And if you go wider again, to 275/35r18, you can find the PS2s at around £230, Goodyear GSD3 for £150, or Kumho KU31 for £125.

Are US tyre sizes different to European ones? Here the front tyres are 225! :P

I'm changing both rears - don't like the idea of one new and one worn on a car like this.

The full price I've got for the Conti's above fitted is £370.60.

I've found somewhere local-ish that will do the sessantas for £325 all in so tempted to go for them as reports seem good.

Next crisis is finding my locking wheelnut. Had a quick look this morning but it wasn't where I thought it was. Hopefully will find it tonight as don't want to order tyres until I have it. I know I had one with the car when I bought it as the dealer showed me.

My locking wheel nut was in the tool pouch in the boot...

Cheers......exactly where it was

Ordered the Sessanta's in the end from mytyres...£139.60 each plus fitting for £10 by a local fitting station.

Thanks for everyone's help :)
