glad you got it sorted, i think you got off light at £140, 1 of lifes lessons

x2 - that's about what a new key would have cost you and you got a new spare thrown in :D

I don't have the wee plastic key for my car - does anyone know how I can get a new one & where, or is it a stealer trip ?

How did he manage to pick to boot lock so easily?!

That in impressive!!!

Slightly worrying that the locksmith could get in any of our cars so easily !! (actually, if he couldn't get in he'd make a pretty crap locksmith)

Glad you had a good outcome, £140 doesn't sound too bad at all.

Aside from the fancy looking key, the lock is just an average quality wafer lock, not too challenging to any good lock picker.

Defeated Mr RAC so can't be that bad.

Any car lock isn't going to exactly be fort Knox, so if it took the locksmith 30min is far longer than 99% of most scroats would waste trying to get in, far longer than the industry average for breaking into a car without damaging it so all in all think we ought to be pleased with this result.

Glad you got it fixed :driving:
+1

I had a very similar problem not long ago. Mrs Lozzer went to London. I accompanied her to the train station in her car. She drove and allowed me to unload the bags. I then helped her onto her train and waved her on her way. With the car keys still in her pocket. After a 30 minute taxi ride home (with her car parked in a 15 minute parking bay) I found out that the spare car keys were in her pocket. Her main set, I eventually discovered, were at the bottom of her handbag. On the train to London.

Cue Special Delivery of keys the following day. Another 30 minute taxi ride.... and a £80 parking fine. Job well done, I'd say...

This happened to me with my 318 e46, BMW came, peeled back a bit of rubber at the back window, inserted 2 wires and pressed a button. That was it. 1 hour later I realised I had the plastic key in my wallet the whole time.

Not really going to help with the e85/e86 discussion, but BMW can remote unlock the e89 if you have the car registered with BMW Assist. Quite cool. And you can do it from your iPhone with the BMW remote app.
