Upgrading to //M caveats, gotchas, etc

Hey everyone, first post here. I've been reading the forums for about 6 months but this is the first time I've posted. On to my questions:

I currently own a 2.5i Z4, I've had it for about a year and I love everything about it. However, I'm starting to feel the need to upgrade; and if I'm going to upgrade might as well go for the //M since it's a beast (I test drove one and I'm pretty sold).

1. How does the maintenance cost compare to the regular Z4? I've seen a few threads on here that equate the //M to a license to print money. How much worse is it than the regular Zed?

2. What are the gotchas and caveats? On my current Z one of the things to watch out for is the drainage plugs by the rear wheels (something the facelift and //M models I understand changed so it's no longer an issue). What are the other ones? From another thread I got these:

- Motor Mounts - broken or loose bolts
- Strut Tower Firewall Braces - loose connections at firewall
- Rear Sway Bar Bushings/Connections
- TSB on fuel pump wiring harness in Boot
- Syncromesh problems between 1st & 2nd - run it hard and shift between 6K & 7.5K a number of times
- Rear Diff Noise - shims out of place
- Paint imperfections - bonnet most reported
- Body Panel Alignment.
- Everything on this list: <http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=21281>

3. Colors: Most of the ones I see listed are black, red, blue and occasionally bronze. Are the colors more limited than the regular Zed?
Interior: My current one has the blue leather (and I think it's real nice), but all the //Ms seem to have either black or occasionally tan or red. I imagine that it comes down to what people actually bought, but I'm wondering if that's also more limited.

4. Anything else you can think of that I need to know about upgrading from a 2.5i to a //M. Thanks!

Can't help with your questions as I've only had mine since August and it's cost me nothing (other than fuel obviously, 25.4mpg avg so far).

Just fucking get one. They are bloody amazing.

I doubt they'll let you rag it to check those supposed synchromesh problems but good luck with the search buddy. I just took the easy option and got an approved used ;) they are a lot of fun though...probably too much fun for the public road unless you have considerable self restraint...

Just prepare for the permanent grin on your face.....

The ///M is an amazing car, ive yet to have had more fun in any vehicle ive owned!!, i love mine, plenty of great upgrades now available to really make the car a proper weapon but still completely usable and comforable everyday.

Thanks guys, I'm really excited to be upgrading. I'm going to take my time and find the perfect one though, seeing as I already have a zed :)
