The DISA controls intake resonance at various rpm ranges. This is for improved intake performance, but it effects the sound as well. The old DISA probably wasn't sealing properly causing the intake to be "musically" out of tune. Sort of like perished valve seals on a saxophone, they mess up proper reverberation. Now that it's in tune, it sounds better! Plus the metal upgrade is a better sound reflector than the old plastic piece.
If my theory is correct, this would only be noticeable below 3750 rpm when the valve is closed. Above that the valve opens, it would not make any difference what valve is in there, unless it wasn't even opening properly.
