Updating my Pro Nav, help required

I assume that Connected Drive have added the car to your account by now, so why did you go down the dealer route as opposed to the download to USB route?

I ask as I have to update the other car that still has its original 2015 maps installed.

Once my car was added to Connected Drive they then told me due to the age of the car I would need to take it to a dealer. I took the car to the dealer and after a few hours they rang and said they could not do it. They informed me that they would need to order a USB drive with the correct map on it and update my car through the glovebox USB. This is what I was expecting all along. The saga continues.......

The dealer did the USB update for me as well - I’m a little reluctant to go connected drive for the other car. It took hours to download the 24Gb into the mandatory BMW Download manager then hours to put onto a stick - then to find it didn’t fire up the update. - but maybe I was just too hasty!

Sat Nav update has arrived at my local BMW Dealership and it is booked in for Wednesday 14th August. I'll report back when it has been done.

They put 2019-2 on my car and it’s been from home to northern Italy via Netherlands Germany and Switzerland- I’ve been on some back roads but it’s been inch perfect.

Lock on after being on the ship took about 5 minutes.

I updated my maps in my 2011 car last year from the original 2011 maps. I did it via the glovebox USB port. Went for an hours drive and it rebooted and was ok. Had to enter the code right at the beginning of the process.

I have a tiny thumb drive in the armrest port for music, works a treat and as it’s so small there is no chance of it getting knocked. 64GB I think.

On the nav screen there is a little round icon in the bottom left. If this has a tick in it, the glovebox usb update method should work, no tick means it has to be done by dvd, but I thought that was a 2010 change so your 2012 car should have it.

Tried to add my car to connected drive iPhone app and it said to go to dealer. Message came back the car is too old and no longer supported.

Does this £60 subscription for 2 years maps work on older cars?

I asked about a subscription and was told it was for newer cars. Once I have the latest update I probably won't need another. My other cars sat nav map is also 7 years out of date and we manage fairly well to be honest. However, I am planning on updating that very soon also. So I think one update will be enough. Google maps on my phone would come in handy for an emergency.

ALL DONE!!!

I took my car to the main dealer who updated the Sat Nav with a USB Drive to version 2019-2 and it is all working great. They even gave me the USB drive in the retail packaging it came in. I asked about the unit switching itself off after a period of time and the dealer told me they can over-ride the auto off function to allow the update to go straight on. So all is good and it cost me £75.14.
