Hello all.

Need some Z-ist community advice please.

At the hight of my power and the tender 'young, dum and full of c%m" age of 35, I've decided to jack my job in for the quitter life. Gone will be the luxury hotels, michelin star food, fine wine and hot hostesses jet set lifestyle. The reality is that I could not bear hearing once more: "have you got a laptop in there?" and "can you take your shoes off" at 6 a.m as I have in the last 5 yrs.

Hello to fat Havanas in the hamac for 2 months deciding what to do in life.

So using my little shiny parachute, I would like to buy a more practicle car than my adored but adored Z4MC. Have no fears, she's not going anywhere and will be fitted with bucket seats, harness and new suspension in the coming months.

What I need is something to carry all my windsurfing crap (takes a huge amount of room) a woman with teenager and possibly a dog (can I swap it for the teenager I wonder). To travel long distance 3x per year max otherwise street use and going to the beach.

Choices: (some sensible, others less)
BMW E61 535d LCI Phase 2(Touring M pack) 2008
+fast as feck, huge size
-winter tyres for winter

Audi A6 All road phase 2 2009+
+looks good, 4WD, can rise from the ground
- its an Audi and trouble free like an Audi. Hydrolic suspension means sick bag

Audi RS4 Avant/ saloon
+always wanted one albeit in saloon
- too small, petrole useage, is it reliable?

Range Rover TDV8 2007
+the perfect car
-lots of trouble

Land Rover Defender 110
+cheap, reliable, lifestryle change
-agricultural, slow

Or should I just not bother and buy an M6?
budget is circa €20k

E60 M5 Touring.

I'd take one of them over the RS4 any day.

Audis leave me a bit cold.

Been there with the ranger, pain in the neck being at the dealer all the time :(

 "ts an Audi and trouble free like an Audi " :D was that tongue in cheek ? the allroads are notoriously financially crippling to run out of warranty
My money with your wishlist would go on a 530d tourer , just remap it for 535 performance 8)
however my wildcard should the budget stretch would be http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201303065637949/sort/default/usedcars/model/touareg/make/volkswagen/onesearchad/used/onesearchad/nearlynew/onesearchad/new/keywords/r50/postcode/bb120hr/page/1/radius/1501?logcode=p

Yes Mr Wilks, that was a wie bit of froggy sarcasm. Generally speaking, I hate Audi and asociated belief of their drivers that they have a car better than BMW or Mercedes as opposed to a front whell drive Skoda for badge snobs  :) that felt good.

Like that Touareg but 20mpg!!! And i get sick in these 4x4's

The 535d is certainly the wise choise but its a big thing, i live in town and i'm starting to fancy an RS4 Avant. Convincing myself that I need a V8 to counteract enemployment depression

With the R8 V8 that B7 RS4 is meant to be one of he best Audis ever made and largely trouble free. Wonder if I could pass it off to the missus as a sensible 4 door estate car (with badge delete...

Doubt you'l see 20MPG in the RS4 8) makes the R50 touareg look frugal
Interesting choices . keep us posted

SWMBO has a 2010 RR TDV8. Loads of toys, amazing trim and it has been totally trouble free. It is absolutely all the car you could ever need.

+ 1 wholeheartedly second that, it's all the car and much much more. Get it in a great colour, colour code it, and just sit back and enjoy the looks, and the comfort. The TDV8 is amazingly quick and sends gorgeous too.

They don't have one in the current line up, but if you can find a late 09 or 10 one, then buy it without any hesitation. I had mine close to 4 years and it was perfect and hardly ever put a foot wrong

Just got rid of my S4...

sub 15mpg and drank more oil than, well a very thristy oil drinker... I can't see the RS4 being any better TBH...

**I will say that I used to drive it very hard**

Someone told me that the S4 drank more than the RS4 which I found hard to understand...

Can't say that makes any sense to me either... :o :o :o

Same basic engine, only the RS4 has had tweaks at the factory....

I doubt those tweaks made it any more "baby polar bear friendly"

Here is a vid from drive with Chris Harris really like his vids. Its about a nakard S4 estate vs RS4 estate. After a remap the S4 walks it! Half the price! Good value if you ask me! I do love the RS and S estates wish they brought an M3 estate.

Looks like a bit of a miniature Hurst, but like those wheels & trim
