Unwanted attention...

Hi all, fairly new to my z (2 weeks today), have put a few snaps up on newbie section, and thought I would share a story, see f anyone has had a similar experience.

Today I was turning right, at a t junction. A chap came from the main road, turned across in front of me, and stopped dead. I pulled forward slightly, then had to swerve since he stopped (to pick up his partner). He then saw me, (top down) and proceeded to turn the air blue.

As I carried on, he backed out, and chased me into my driveway, only to inform me what a "Fing Dhead" I was, and how I should open my eyes.

Does that happen often? I told a friend, who suggested its jealousy, as I am quite young for the car.

Just a jealous knuckle dragger, who can't see his own errors !

just ignore them ..not worth wasting your energy on morons like that.

Most people where I live give signals suggesting "nice car" at least that how I interpret it :D

I do get the odd Idiot trying to prove something, I just let them overtake me,, If it makes them feel better that's good they obviously need an Ego boost..I don't ha!

Just a dumbass mother fucker. I don't think your zed is doing that, he's just obviously a sandwitch short of a picnic.

I definitely wouldn't have driven home with someone following me - somewhere public like a supermarket, or the nearest police station...

X 2 you don't want to lead the knuckle draggers back to your doorstep.

Hmm yeh if you were aware he was following you maybe you should have headed somewhere else, but as for the guy being an idiot - think most of us have had it and there are plenty of them about.

Idiots abound. I have given up. The number of times you flash, bip the horn or just look at someone with an arched eyebrow when they have clearly done (or are doing) something wrong / dangerous / irresponsible and then THEY start out with the gestures and expletives as if you've done something offensive....Woman in her own wee world reversed out of a spot straight in front of me the other day, nearly hit my car - I just raised my hand and she started telling me to calm down, she couldn't see... When I suggested she could have been going more slowly (politely) she started hurling abuse at me. Just laughed at her and she drove off, but still, wound me right up.

My favourite was a knuckle head in a van who carved me up and then we sat in traffic and he was cursing and swearing about nothing at all.

Funniest bit as we crawled along in traffic with him acting the tw*t and weaving around to make sure nobody could get by him and pissing everyone off - I called his company and spoke to the fleet manager.

Very interesting conversation and was told it would be a right kicking session for him when he got back as it was not the first time they had trouble.

What a smug grin I had as I later passed him

I've found top down driving seen to bring the jealousy out in people! I don't get it - Zeds don't cost an awful amount of money, Joe Bloggs will have paid more for his poverty spec Focus.

Ha ! That's classic, he was too stupid to realise his company's phone number was on the the van or at least his company's name !! brilliant

I had a guy in PC world being a right smart ass with me because I wasn't as up to speed on PC's as he was (really patronising) I said to him "you seem to have a bit of an attitude problem" he changed so quick, he was bending over backwards to help me giving me freebies etc., it mustn't have been the first time it was said . Then he was watching me as I walked around the shop ...in case I made a complaint..should have !

One of my son's mate's Dads pulled up next to me in a car park (in his 3 series) when we were picking up said boys from rocket one evening. His first words were 'christ, have you won the lottery then ?'

Admittedly it was freshly washed and very shiny, but still. He was gobsmacked when I told him what it cost, what it would cost now, and how little money needed for one even 1 or 2 years older. Some people just add up shiny + BMW + 2 seater + convertible and come up with their own preconceived idea of the person driving it. We're not alone - there will be the same issues for Audi, Merc, Lotus, Porsche etc. drivers that suffer the same, even driving 8 year old models.

Absolutely agree. If somebody is following you don't go home.

The last thing you want is some jealous knuckle dragger messing with your P&J one night.

They are everywhere unfortunately and not always in cars! Today I was heading home along Blackpool Promenade quite a way from all the visitor action and going through a straight section of the south prom which has speed cameras every couple of hundred yards so trundling at a pedestrian 25mph and enjoying the rays and gentle warm sea breeze. Luxury! Very little traffic ahead or behind. 200 metres away I saw a group of 15 or so lads probably 18-30 sort of age range, shorts and most mainly topless and lobster red from too much sun, coming out of a quite decent hotel in a quiet area of south prom and walking towards the pavement to cross to the beach.

They looked as though they were waiting for me to pass as I slowly approached. I considered stopping and courteously waving them across as I was in no rush. However as I felt them all staring intently at my approach I thought better of it, red rag to a bunch of bulls etc. Good call as it goes. One of the lads, the chief idiot no doubt, leaving it to the last second ran out into the road almost in front of me waving his arms and whirling his tea shirt like a demented dervish and laughing inanely. I slowed and moved to the oncoming traffic lane which fortunately was empty and avoided him. Apart from being insane he actually seemed quite pleasant as I didn't get gobbed at or verbally abused in my hearing. On the other hand if I had stopped in front of him it may well have been a very different story if he had been joined by his mates. I felt a car kicking episode was avoided. I just smiled whilst going round him and gave a friendly wave at the easily amused throng and went on my way.

Regrettably where I live there is a regular and endless supply of potential Jeremy Kyle aspirants. He could quite easily do an extended summer season here.

I have noticed a completely different attitude of other motorists towards me depending on wheels I have been driving. The E500 AMG Merc an extremely tasty motor by any criteria produced an almost deferential doff of the cap from other drivers and general friendliness. It would if unleashed wipe the floor with the current Zed (maybe not round corners!) but probably many never realised it and classed it as an old duffers car (I plead guilty!) andI got let out, let in and got a smile usually. The Porsche however was an open invitation to be cut up, spat at, never let in and often abused if you were courteous and let people in or out as obviously you were just taking the p*** or posing not being friendly.

Looks like in the first 1000 miles of Z4 ownership it is going to be just as mixed a response with the Z4 as with the Porsche. Doesn't bother me fortunately as old age well chills you. I just smile and look gaga, which isn't too hard.

+ 1 ... though happened to me once, as I only noticed the person was still behind me once I was in the garage at home, and getting out the car.

[It was a guy on a motorbike, who I had overtaken because he was driving soo slowwwwly ... then I stopped at some red traffic lights, he eventually arrives at the traffic lights .. ... manoeuvres his bike in front of me ... lights change ... I overtake again ... drive home ... (about 1km down the road) ... go into garage, get out car, find he is just coming around the corner .. and he stops to rant about ?? ... neighbour was there too ... looked on slightly amused and slightly concerned for me ]

Fair point tbh, going home not the best idea. Didn't really think at the time, just wanted to get back.

Amusingly, his girlfriend seemed very angry he had gone out of his way just to insult me, and wasted her no doubt precious time...

As you all said, idiots out there at times!

I agree with the above... My car def gets more attention( both wanted and unwanted) when its clean with the roof down.

Its life... Dont let it spoil your experience or driving your car though.
