is it just me or is the 3.0SE engine in my 2003 Z not putting out many poneys concidering its a 3.0 engine? i think its 236 or something? what options are avaiable to release what im sure are some more "trapped" horses?

seems like not much horse power for a large engine car. is this something BMW did on purpose so they could release more improved specd cars?

You could always try this if you are brave enough

I'm pretty sure it's more like 213. The Si has more (260 odd) but the one I drove actually felt slower, although that could have been because it had a roof.

Its 231bhp vs 265 on the Si. 0-62 in 5.9 vs 5.7 in Si

Since it's a 9 year old car you might want to ensure it's correctly set up and running properly. Filters, plugs, oil, etc.

Run mine and have no issue keeping up or at times leaving ///M's on fast windy roads, so don't see it as a model specific issue.

Tuning is limited really. ESS superchargers are the way, but for costs as said before forget it and swap to an ///M

I agree, I would describe my 3.0SE as brisk rather than fast.
You would think that a big engine in such a small car would be a monster, but it isn't.
Having said that, I think a lot of the feeling is because the straight six is such a smooth lazy engine, rather than a hard fast revving engine like a smaller turbo'ed engine.
However I have just come from a 1000cc sportbike, so everything feels tame.
I just did a track day and drove a Ferrari 360 and a Lamborghini and I was disappointed with both of their performances.

CJ10 isnt wrong I was behind him at the Cumbria Meet and it gave my M a good run for its money.

Although I haven't had mine for long so was being slightly more cautious lol!

I love the power from my Auto when I hit the sport button, but I think that is partly because when driving in auto it just cruises along, as soon as I press the sport button it drops a gear and just feels tighter, I love the two cars in aspect, plus the drop head makes it 4 cars in one, bargain :D

well i underdtand what people are saying it just that i thought BMW would have been able to get more than 231 from a 3.0ltr engine! in terms of performance im sure a nice exhaust system and a remap wouldnt go a miss!

and in terms of changing filters and oil! this is always done! im not saying mine feels slow as it doesnt i think it pulls like a train but just think it could have been made with a bit more ooopft!

I agree that 231 BHP is pretty poor from a 3.0, but I am guessing the M was always planned and they wanted to make a clear distinction between the two, same as the Boxster and 911.

yeah it does seem that way!

As per CJ and Tom's comments. I was behind Tom at the national meet.

Sometimes as you get used to a car it feels slower over time. The problem with drastic power increases is that you'll to upgrade brakes etc to deal with the extra power.

Sometimes a driver training course will yield far better results than an extra 50bhp....

I wouldn't say 231bhp is bad for an engine designed 10 years ago.

At roughly 77bhp per litre, it's not that bad really. Some modern engines aren't matching that output per litre.

As long as mine is quicker and rapid in overtaking than the majority of the other cars on the road, then I'm content :)
