Unable to remove auto shifter!

Hey folks

I'd like to update my auto shifter on my 2005 2.5i. I have the all-black leather one and it's getting a bit trashed. I'd like to replace it with the 3.0i version that has the silver middle section... or even just a new all-black one.

Problem is I cannot get the old one out. I've watched YT videos on how to do it (put shifter in Drive, press the button and pull up), but no matter how hard I try, it will NOT come out.

Any suggestions, tips or tricks? Do I just need to work out more at the gym?

I'm tugging it HARD!! (That don't sound right!!! haha) Seriously, I feel like I'm going to break something if I try any harder. Is it possible to break something by pulling too hard on it?

Well I just nipped out to wifey's auto and did exactly what the video shows and it really was that simple.
So either [ref]StudioWizard[/ref]'s has been glued on, or maybe it does have to still have the key in the accessory position?

Stuart, I didn't even do that, simply sat in the car and pulled it up with it in drive.

I know I had one in the past that was difficult

But OP be careful if you shag bits of the mech or break stuff by forcing it I don’t think it’s pretty

Great video! I'm pulling it on 10x's harder than that and it's not budging at all. I may just have to live with it as is and make the leather look better somehow.

Yeah, that's what I'm worried about it. Basically, I'll just keep trying here and there without pulling too hard. Maybe over time it'll loosen up... or not.

Have you tried pressing down first?

I know that the major no no was twisting it- don’t!

Yes, tried pushing down to see if I could get ANY movement at all, but nothing. And intuitively, I did not try to twist it. Nothing good could come from that! haha
