Unable to close hood

Hi All
I have an e85 04 plate z4. I have just opened the hood as it is a lovely sunny day. On opening it stopped half way down (this happens sometimes) I released the hydraulics as normal and eased it down the rest of the way. so it is down all the way. unfortunately this time I cannot close the hood the top red light is flashing on the hood open/ close buttons. I have tried pressing both open and close buttons but nothing works. Any ideas anyone.

Thats odd because the parcel shelf switch will only prevent the roof opening. It doesn't prevent the roof closing, so i think you've other issues
 
Hi I opened the hood on the button today and it stopped half way . I tried to open and and close it on the buttons from there but it wouldn't move either way. I then disabled the hydraulics and opened it fully by pulling down on the hood. The top red light is now flashing and I cannot now move it either way any suggestions.

I suspect that, as hypothesised by @Number5, you have other problems.
My guess would be a break in the wiring loom that runs up the left side of the roof.
Manually lift it about 3/4 of the way up, then you should be able to see the loom, covered in black plastic sheathing. Feel around that, at the point where it folds most, about level with the top rear corner of the window. You may feel a 'knot' under the sheath. If so, strip that back and you're likely to find a broken wire.
