ULEZ

Can someone please explain to me why my 19 year old E85 Euro 3 car is ULEZ friendly? I can't drive into central London without paying a fee but that's all. I thought cars had to be at least Euro 4 to comply but the government site tells me mine is okay. :?

Are you sure your car is only Euro 3?

My 2002 325ti with the M54 engine was also ULEZ compliant but the V5 from years ago only specified emissions, rather than the Euro standard.

Only going by Auto Trader adverts and the internet. Facelift zeds are advertised as being Euro 4. And E89 cars seem to be Euro 5. I have heard that some makers were Euro 4 compliant earlier.

My sister lives in a London Borough so I checked my 325ti on the TFL website as that is the one that would have charged me if it didn't comply!

Thank you mr Tidy, I don’t need to go to London in my z4, I was just a little confused as I had always assumed that cars needed to be newer than 2004 to be okay. I will be picking up my son from Heathrow next month and will be using my wife’s Ford Focus so will be okay.

My new car is Euro 27 compliant. This means that if I go into a ULEZ zone they pay me £100. Unfortunately it costs £110 in fuel to get there and back. :D

The irony is that we are no longer 'in' Europe (remember the ongoing Brexit fiasco?), so why is 'Euro compliant' relevant? :?

Thank you mr Tidy,
That sentence makes me chuckle so much!

I don't know why - I was bound to post something helpful at some point!

It is just the "thank you Mr Tidy" sentence, when I know your name and age. I also know Mikey's name (obviously) and age. It's difficult to explain but just makes me chuckle (I'm doing it again now).

Correct. My 2004 M54 is Euro 3, but is still ULEZ compliant and can drive in all ULEZ zones without fee (still has to pay congestion charge like any other car though). This is despite the TfL website saying the following:

Euro 3 for motorcycles, mopeds, motorised tricycles and quadricycles (L category)
Euro 4 (NOx) for petrol cars, vans, minibuses and other specialist vehicles
Euro 6 (NOx and PM) for diesel cars, vans and minibuses and other specialist vehicles

My Z4 must be a quadricycle

When you find out what the Government is doing with ULEZ will you let me know as im just as confused as you. I am rather confused at how our little 18+ Year old E85s are ULEZ compliant but Mrs Jones and her 2016 1.5 Ford Focus is not compliant.

I see all the articles in the red top papers (Rags? ) and honestly cant see what all the whinging is about. Buy a better/different car maybe? Until the Government starts attacking our Zs then im going to live in happy ignorance I think.

* Crap like this from the sun makes me want to stay ignorant of the ULEZ https://www.thesun.co.uk/motors/21703021/forced-to-shell-out-17k-because-of-ulez/

Matty_Z4, my wife has just checked her Ford Focus CC 2.0 petrol and it is okay. Don't know what Euro it is though. Is your wife's car diesel as these need to be newer to pass okay?
