UK Owners - which fuel for the 3.0 engine ?

I've been playing with Tescos 99RON and Shell V power - both feel different. I've run 3-4 tankfulls on each so far to let the engine adjust.

Tescos 99 - more MPG + feels more torquey at the bottom end - engine can feel a bit strained at the top

Shell V Power - Pulls more cleanly through the rev range (especially 4-6000 RPM) compared to the Tesco fuel

Interested in what others are using ??

Cheers

James

I use Tesco 99, but frankly I'm amazed you can tell there is a difference between types! :? I can tell the difference between 95 RON and 99 (for a start 95 makes the engine pink slightly), but differences you describe between Tesco 99 and Shell V Power and impossible I'd say.

I used to fill up with standard shell fuel, but have recently been trying V-Power. I honestly cannot tell the difference (apart from the twinge in the wallet!). I didn't notice any performance gain or extra fuel economy. Think I'll go back to normal shell fuel next fill-up.

I fill mine up with one tank of normal 95ron and then the next with either 99ron of Shell Vmax and I don;t notice any difference.

If I run the car on several tanks of 95ron it definately seems to loose it's sparkle.

Has anyone ever tried to see if the different fuel has any impact what so ever on oil consumption?

Reason for asking - I only ever had 98 in my previous Z4 3.0, and it did not use any oil what so ever whilst others were experiencing oil consumption

V Power.....

However when I was down south recently (Tesco 99 appears to have bypassed us in the north east) I tried 99 and I could notice a difference, more torque.....

Anything with 98 or above seems a lot more responsive in the 2.5 I have.

It's noticeable if you run it on a couple of tanks of 95 then a couple of tanks of 98. Think it takes at least two tanks to clear out all the old stuff.

I'd also reset the Throttle Adaptive settings thing too and you'll notice even more of a difference.

Whatever you do don't put diesel in it! hahaha

Coming from Leeds (Lower Wortley) round the ring road (past Mazda/Porsche/Ferrari) towards the airport, going up the hill there (with the cameras) if I never had V power in my car it always pinked, felt a bit weak and had a really bad flat spot at 4000rpm.

I think the difference is more noticeable when accelerating in a higher gear under load, say 50-80 in 3rd/4th, and uphill.

Agreed. The pinking is the most noticable thing. I can't say I've really noticed a lack of power with 95 RON, but I hate the pinking so therefore stick to 99.

Your lucky to able to find 98 Ron petrol as the nearest Shell garage to us is 11.5 miles away so a round trip would cost a gallon of petrol

Many thanks but I'm here under false pretences as I bought the Z4 ten days ago for my wife and she won't let me near it.

V-power here all the time = always ran the TT on it and like the way it seems to run. We don't have a Tesco with 99 near me so I can't try that at the moment. :(
