Hi folks, looking to get a Z4 coupe next week and was wondering what the deal was with the tyres. I hear of many people changing the run flats for regular tyres to reduce unsprung weight and make the ride smoother, and I also see much written about Falken tyres. Are these just the forum favorite, or has there been some sort of group test that proved them to be the best for the Z4?
 
runflats here & don't see any reason to change ? more than happy with the bridgestone's & ran with them on last 3 vehicles without issue .
yeah they cost more but also treat them well & they wear longer than standard rubber 8)
have had falken's though on a car & found them great on all surfaces / conditions but only did 5k before selling the car .
pay your money & take your choice
 
I got Bridgestone potenza run flats too. We got pirelli p zeros on the SL and between the two the SL is a joy. Z4 is rock hard, but that's also down to the suspension too. I'll prob change to something else but won't roadway with run flats. I'd rather run flat than carry a normal spare around or have to worry about mending a flat.
 
Quite a few use Goodyear F1,a bit dearer than Falkens.FWIW i have found in life you get what you pay for. :fuelfire:
 
Think falcons have a good reputation for all cars. Cheaper than run flats with better ride. You don't have to carry a spare, just gt a can of tyre weld for about a tenner and a compressor for about a fiver and you will be fine!

If you look at the latest tyre reviews (eg 2012 Auto Bild Max Performance Tyre Test), the Goodyear FI Asymmetric 2 is the most consistant performer. In fact the Falken isn't in the top 15, although it is cheaper than lots that are. However my view is where safety is concerned, I'm worth another £30/£40 a tyre. As previous posts said, you pay your money, you take your choice.
 
Vredestien Ultrac Sessanta are a favourite with quite a few people (me included). Well priced, good quality and what a difference between run flats.
 
Yeah, I'm a firm believer of not skimping on both tyres and brakes, so I'm just looking for whatever is generally regarded as the best tyre for the Z4.

A big test with my current car found that the Pirelli P Zero Neros were the best, so I've had them on it the last 2 times I've renewed the tyres. Has any such test been done with the Z4?

guess your first big choice is use RF's or not ? then you decide which brand you like & for what reason ?

Goodyear F1's for me. My fronts are coming off soon with over 27k under them, including 50 laps of Donington and 6 laps of the ring.
 
Yes Pirelli P Zeros look good too!

Ben very pleased with the Michelin PS3's on the Zed, very predictable & grippy in the wet, wearing well despite the abuse.

Just don't ever go budget
 
Hmm, I might go for the Goodyears then, or perhaps stick to what I'm used to with the Pirellis. Between these two it'll probably come down to price. Looks like the Goodyear is best in the dry and Pirelli in the wet. Judging by this year's weather maybe the Pirellis are the best bet!
 
I need new rears too, my vreds have covered 7k miles and are on the wear indicator :thumbsdown:

Cheapest price i can find eagle f1 asymmetric 2 is mytyres, and cost £12 fitted local to me and saves the hassle of delivery from camskill.

Looks like the other way round, but both great tyres!

2012 Sport Auto Summer Tyre Test
Despite being one of the oldest tyres on test, the Pirelli P Zero finished in first place thanks to a strong dry performance, a very consistent 15 lap track run and the ability to still mix it with the best wet weather tyres. It’s a strong all round performance from the P Zero, showing the updates Pirelli have been putting into the P Zero are keeping it current.

In second place we have the ever high scoring Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2. The Asymmetric 2 has yet to be out of the top 3 in any tyre test it has featured in, and again its near flawless wet performance leaves it just shy of first place.
 
Thanks for that Barrykicks, I'll have to check out that review - I'd looked at the 2011 one linked earlier in this thread. If the P Zeros are top dog then I'll stick to them, as it's what I'm used to anyway and I know they're good rubber.
