whats with this craze for huge rims with narrow tyres stretched over them ? seen some nice looking ones but some are so extreme, must be a nightmare where kerbs are concerned. :?
 
The 'Euro' look has been round since the 80's and was very popular in the VW scene.

Thought it looked stupid to me, and I'm sure there's no way the tyre was made to perform in those extreme conditions. Wonder how many get stopped by the police and given a rectification notice.

Saw a baby blue VW Polo at the Gillette Corner Shell petrol station last week, and the front was about 6 inches higher than the rear. The poor lad almost had to get out and coax it over the 3 inch speed bumps. When he was stopped you could see that the rear arch rested on the tyre, and the tyre stuck out an inch further than the arch, with the wheel sticking out another inch :o

Like this, but on a 2000-ish 1.0L VW Polo...

There was a new-ish A3 in town the other week that was lowered to where I couldn't see how it could steer at all. I couldn't stop to get a snap as I was in traffic, but it was similar to this one...

Seriously though, why would you mod a 'performance' car to point / in a way that prevents it being driven in any sort of normal manner ? I am with mrlozzer - ignoring aesthetics for a moment, I just don't get it :scratchhead:
 
I've never understood the Euro look on the whole. Some parts I like. I've always liked cars that ride really low (not too low). I quite liked some of the styling too, but the tiny wheels with stretched rubber. No. Just no
 
I guess it's personal preferences. I love some of the lowered cars on here, but there are some where in my opinion, the line is spoiled.

Fitting 19" wheels fills the arches nicely (I would say that wouldn't I) but others don't like them.

I do scratch my head when a car clearly won't drive properly. Maybe when that happens its time to take it off the road and display it as art?
 
As a show car i can admire the effort and attention to detail to get the tyres to fit like that, and for it all to fit within the arches...

However its utterly pointless
 
Kids will be kids... I say let them express themselves and have their fun. They have plenty of time to worry about practicality and functionality later. Most of these cars are intended for shows or cruising the main drag. This thread reads like the establishment's reaction to the emergence of rock or rap or snowboarding or spiked hair or just about anything the deviates too far from the norm. :rofl:
