Tyre ratings for Z4MR

Doing a bit of research into tyres for a Z4MR, can someone tell me what minimum specs the tyre needs to be please?

eg i've been looking at the following PS2's on mytyres.com;

Pilot SPORT PS2 225/45 ZR18 91W with rim protection ridge NEW £180
Pilot SPORT PS2 225/45 ZR18 95Y EL with rim protection ridge NEW £206
Pilot SPORT PS2 225/45 ZR18 95Y EL with rim protection ridge, BSW, RRBL runout £210

I dont want runflats of course!

The standard Conti SportContact M3 is a 91Z load rating.

Z (or ZR) as a speed rating means over 150mph.
W as a speed rating means up to 168mph.

As the car is limited to 155mph, I'd have thought a W/Y/Z speed rating would be fine.

I couldn't find the PS2 in the same 95 rating as the standard Conti SportContact M3 though - although there is a 275/35/18 with a 95 load rating (£250 though).

Higher load rating is ok, just don't go lower. Rears are wider.

You *can* step down a speed rating if you want, but you'll probably be able to feel a difference in performance. I did it in my 325Ci and could tell the difference. There are lots of little things that determine how a tire handles, not just the maximum sustained speed rating. I hate to say it, but you have an M, don't cheap out on the only thing that connects it to the road.

OK so from the 3 i posted which one would you go for? :lol:

PS i know the rears are 255x40, just looking at an example. :thumbsup:

Runflats aren't on Ms. I don't know what RRBL is???? I would go with the 95 load rating and absolutely rim protectors!!!

Shipkiller, I'll bet in the US it's limited to 155....

RRBL = Recessed Raised Black Letters

Limited to 155mph everywhere isn't it, although some people seen over 160 on the clock.

BSW = black side wall

So the 2nd or 3rd one should be best then....what does runout mean though?

Just means they've changed the sidewall lettering or such. Maybe the RRBL was an option and now it's standard?

BTW, I would still go for the 91W as it's as capable of doing the top speed of the Z4M as a 91Z - I'd always worry that the 95Y might be a slightly harder compound with a stiffer sidewall which would mess up the ride a bit?

91W means the tyre can carry a load of 615lbs at 130mph
95Y means the tyre can carry a load of 690lbs at 130mph
(the speed rating is more or less irrelavant here, as the more you go above 130mph the more you're supposed to lower the load and increase the pressures anyway)

German cars have no limiter. I have not tried it, however I'm told by some of the crazies the limiter is only in 6th gear :lol:

If it's like my 6-speed M5, then the limiter doesn't engage in 5th, so you can VMAX it. Put it in 6th and the car slows down.

168mph reading was on the GPS. I only found out about it a few days later when I was playing around with the GPS.
