Tyre Pressure Warning Light

Hi

My Tyre Pressure Warning light has lit up on numerous occasions in the last 3 months. Each time i have taken it to the Air machine at garage forecourts to check the pressures on each tyre, and i have found the passenger rear wheel to be the one losing air each time.

So i took it to Halfords autocentre and National Tyres and asked if they could check the tyre in a tyre bath to see if there was any slow punctures but on both occasions, they said the tyre was fine and could not find anything wrong. However, they have cleaned the alloy as they they claim the corrosion can sometimes activate the sensors.

Just wondering if anyone has experienced any similar problems, because logically if it was the alloys, then surely the tyre itself would not be losing any air? Tyre in question is Goodyear F1, and its a non-run flat.

Thanks for any feedbacks.

Hi Carl
What wheels are you running ? not 108's by any chance ? they might be cracked or leaking at the split rim section . The tyre itself may well be sound, but the valve and the wheel rim also need checking. the wheel could be slightly cracked and only with the weight of the car on it will the air leak out .

Hi Bryan

Yes they are 108s.

Guy at National Tyres says hes cleaned and sealed it and that i shoudnt have anymore problems, so we will see. But i will note down your advice and carry out the checks you mentioned should the light rear its ugly red head again!

Cheers.

It can't leak at the point where the two parts of the rim join together as the tyre only seals around the drum, the spider just sits inside it. Could well be hairline cracks though.

interestingly I've had the same issue as described. 2 weeks ago the tyre pressure warning light went off, passenger rear wheel looked slightly deflated so pumped it up and all fine. about 400 miles later same issue. took it to the air pump and its lost 7 psi compared to the drivers rear. went off again yesterday with the same amount of psi loss.

As this is the 3rd time its happened Im going to take it down to the garage to get them to look for a slow puncture as thats what I assumed it would have been, never considered a cracked alloy. fingers crossed its just a slow puncture with a quick (and cheap) fix
