tyre pressure sensors?

so i've got the button on my centre console that looks like a tyre pressure detector. does the M have the system fitted? how does it work? i suppose i could read the book, but thats upstairs.... lazy!

It's an abs/hub style setup that detects where speed differences, its IMO average in its operation but will let you know when a tyre is loosing pressure.

The button is just for setting the system once they're at the right pressure, so pressing it in general doesn't do anything exciting sadly. Pressing it if you have a soft tyre, or when it warns you, is telling the system that's ok, so avoid doing that!
Assuming it works the same on M/non-M that is (above is how it works on my non-M).

Not sure about the UK, but in the US, in mid 2007, BMW switched from hub mounted to inside tire stem mounted air pressure sensors. If the OEM wheels are changed out, the sensors must be transferred to the new wheels or replaced or the system will not function.

cheers guys, i was looking at the dust caps/valve stem and seeing no evidence of it, which is where sensors have been on cars ive had before. Cheers for that.... :) i guess it works based on rotational speed differences between wheels.

They are not very good at monitoring small loses over periods of time though so you still need to check pressures.
