I rented a VRBO (vacation rental by owner) in Nîmes. I often look to this web site for that: www.airbnb.com

IMO, there are so many must-see locations in Provence, that it's obviously a question of compromise when spending only one week. Take into consideration that I travelled 2,000km with my rental car over a two week period. So if you're looking to visit as many places as you can manage with your time, I would recommend choosing a central location, like Arles or Nîmes as a home base. The most beautiful medieval villages and Roman settlements to pick from:

- Aiguèze
- Arles
- Avignon
- St-Remy-de Provence (which should include visits to the Mausole Monastery and Glanum archeological site)
- Bouzigues (a very small coastal village famous for it's oysters)
- St-Guilhem-le-Désert (outstanding!)
- Sommières
- Nîmes (should be visited in the evening, when the colours come to life)
- Uzès

If a beach day is on your agenda, Marseillan-la-mer or L'Espiguette are the more desirable choices, although you won't find the turquoise colours of the Riviera. For the best big city shopping, the old town section of Aix-en-Provence is the place to be.
