Two things I've learned today about my E89

Pondrew

Lifer
 Spaldingski
Today I gave the old girl a good going over (the car not the wife). I cleaned it, took wheels off, cleaned them and brake calipers etc.
I also cleaned the leather and gave it a 'feed'.
I noticed for the first time that the outer part of the inner seat bolsters (if that makes sense) on the Msport seats are not leather. They feel like suede, but presume they are fake suede. Never knew that.

I also checked that everything worked; lights, a/c, etc. I again noticed for the first time that the heated seats have elements in the backrest as well as the seat cushion. Never knew that either.

Oh and going back to the thread regarding the white and red LEDs in the rear wings behind the seats (extended lighting), worked that out too. The white are additional interior lights and the red are 'mood' lighting when the car's lights are on. Bit of a waste of time IMHO, as you can't see them in the day or the dark.

On a plus note, for a nine and a half year old car, everything is tickety boo. Just clocked over 29,000 miles this week, so nearly worn out IMO :D

Modern sealed leather does not respond to "feeding". So make sure you've completely wiped it off as any residue will attract dirt and cause wear.

Yes, "fake suede", termed "alcantara", a very high-tech fabric that is more expensive than leather!

Alcantara  Does not seem to heat up in the sun, wonderful :)

Oh and the heat in the small of the back on a frosty Febuary morning is a blessing.

That makes no sense then, as I am assuming those parts are not leather because you can't really see them or make use of them. Cost cutting is my take on it. :?

I checked my F33 after and that has leather on those parts, but it was significantly more expensive when new! :o

I always assumed it was due to potential wear from sliding the seat back and forth. E85 is the same.

BMW 'Nappa' leather absorbs liquid conditioner, which ('Gliptone') acts as a cleaner, too.
