Twitchy Steering Issues

Hi All,

I’ve got a BMW Z4 2008 ( 58 plate ) 2.0, 107,000 miles.

I’m having issues with the steering. When driving, it twitches to the the left and right very slightly. It’s more noticeable after 30mph.

Any ideas on what it could be?

Are the tyres run flat, these can cause issues

No run flats, just standard tyres

Check your "lollipop" bushes at the back of the front wishbones. Also, does it improve when you press the Sport button? (Can't remember if the 2.0 comes with a Sport button...maybe it doesn't?). My car used to do this and the main reason was the tyres. I switched my front wheels for the rear wheels and the twitching went away.

Worn tyres make things worse, but the cars are set up to be quite lively compared to your typical hatchback.

The tyres can tramline quite badly and a firm hand is necessary on some roads, but find a nice flat dual carriageway and see if it feels a bit more neutral. You can try taking 5 PSI out of the tyres, as this can calm things down, but get the tracking checked as well.
