Tweeter wiring

Hi all. A while back I fitted a Pioneer amp with Focal component speakers and a Kicker sub. At the time I couldn't really see any way of routing cabling for the door tweeters through the multi connector between the door and the bodywork so I fitted them in the tweeter mounting position just behind the head beneath the grill. I'm very happy with the sound but I think it would be that bit better to get them mounted in the door. Has anyone successfully done this?

"so I fitted them in the tweeter mounting position just behind the head beneath the grill"

Could you be a bit more clear on this pls?

Where did you put the tweeters?

Normally tweeters are fitted in the door pillar near the wing mirror,,

If you remove the speaker grills behind the seats there is a midrange with barely any signal going through it but above that is a circular blanking hole. I cut a hole here and fitted the tweeters.

Ah so..the speakers behind the seats are 8” sub woofers...

I assume you are talking about the rear 4” mid range speakers in the shoulder panels?

There is space and as per door you would normally add a cross over to the existing speakers..

Normally the tweeters need a cross over as part of an integrated approach..

From a spatial image of a stereo soundstage you really need to have tweeters in front of you ie in the door pillars..the wiring is already there to hang them off the mid range speaker in the door..the rear speakers fill in the soundstage image..

BMW never fitted rear tweeters to any E89 option..

If you use the fader you can drive them more...

As you say the wiring routing is a bit of a pain, hence why most people go for an oem kit from Eton or Audison that keeps the existing wiring and connectors and doesn’t tax the mid range amp..
