Tweaking insurance quotes

I'm totally mystified by some of the comparison sites, I'm sorting insurance on the family runabout also used by my daughter and started 'tweaking' some of the variables with weird results e.g.
I upped the estimated valuation of the car by £500 and the premium went down £20!
Changed my daughters p/t occupation description from shop assistant/retail to sales assistant/fashion it went down £10
The biggie was changing 'kept overnight in locked garage' to 'on the driveway' and it dropped nearly another £40!
Then lowered the excess by £100 and it stayed the same.

Worth doing but makes no sense to me :idunno:

Think a few people have pranged vehicles on garage door frames-so a tad dearer.
For that kind of thing they could just have different excesses instead of being cheaper not in a garage.
One excess for theft from the garage and another for accidental damage.
They do similar with bikes, if you tell them its garaged but it is stolen from your driveway your excess is higher.

Mines cheaper if i choose ''left on street overnight''. Mental ain't it! I can see why, as it would be harder for thieves to know which house the cars belonged to, but you wouldn't expect a cheaper premium.

Also factory worker is cheaper than production planner/engineer/anything. I always used production engineer on the advice of an insurance call centre. Changed to factory worker and it dropped £30.

Also found out this time round go compare cheaper, with the same details as confused or compare the market. you've got to shop around.
