Turning silver steering wheel trim black

What the best way to turn the silver spoke trim on a standard (no buttons) E85 steering wheel from silver to matt black.
I guess I could plastidip, wrap or spray paint them.
If anyone has any experience of doing this i'd welcome some advice please to achieve the most durable and even finish.

I removed all three spokes and first filled the slot with some plastic filler on the lower centre front spoke. I then wet and dry sanded that back then cleaned front and rear spokes up, sprayed a couple of light coats of grey primer then added 4 light sprayed coats of Simoniz matt black (after each layer was applied I encouraged it to dry with a hair dryer) then left all the spokes in a very warm boiler cupboard overnight to cure the paint. Job done.

I haven't lacquered the spokes but going to leave it for a while and see how they perform in terms of wear.

Plastidip isn't any good. I've tried it, lasted a few miles.

No experience myself but plastic dip would be a no-no. You can peel it off and the steering wheel is a high contact area. Be peeling in minutes...

Whatever you do it needs to be a hard wearing finish. So you'll have to cut it back to plastic, prime, paint and lacquer. Maybe wet and sand it inbetween?

Sure someone here has done it before...

Also sprayed up in Simoniz matt black paint recently the door handles, sport button surround, ash tray, centre console button panel, speaker grilles, gear box trim and window switches and it all looks great - I will post some pictures up later if I get the opportunity

I'm tempted to buy a bit of wrap off ebay to experiment to start with as it can be removed.

Around 500-600 miles I would say and so far so good - Im impressed with the finish.

Ive picked up a test sample of matt black vinyl wrap today as I plan to test out wrapping the aluminium dashboard and centre trim - if the paint starts to scratch or wear out on the spokes then I wil choose to wrap the spokes too.

Top tip: disconnect the battery, wait for 30 minutes and then remove the steering wheel hub (it contains the airbag) before splitting and taking the spokes off ... doing it this way reduces the risk of snapping the lugs off the back of the spokes (as I found out to my cost!)

I've actually got a 2nd wheel (which is going for a retrim at either Royals or the place in Germany), the plastic parts are now on my kitchen worktop, one lug was broken on arrival, but the others are OK. This way I don't need to mess about with the one on my car until I'm ready to swap it all over in a week or 3.
I've just ordered a bit of matt black car wrap off ebay, will see how that goes on over the coming weekend.
