Turner's New Shark Injector out for our Older Zed's

Turner had released the new Shark Injector for our older Zed's and I was wondering if anyone has it yet?

If so, what's the report....

I haven't seen anything yet. But the dyno that they have for the 330, which has the same engine as the 3.0i shows a max torque and hp of approximately 200 at the same revs. I don't understand it. Can someone please explain it to me? The stock is supposed to be 215 torque and 225 hp. So the shark injector lowers your power & torque??

HP & Torque at the wheels instead of at the crank.

Wouldn't count on it. 2 years ago when I had my old M54, TMS said the Shark Injector was gonna be available soon. 1 year ago, I think they even advertised in the Bimmer magazine saying the Shark Injector for the Z4M was going to be available soon, and of course, nothing so far.

If you want software for your M54, just go with Dinan.

Up on one of the other boards last month, Turner was looking for some testers for this. They were looking for some specific Z4's (non M). Now the website says AVAILABLE, though they have not moved the item out of the 'Coming Soon' page....

With the Shark, if you got, lets say 20 HP and 25lb/ft of torque for arguments sake, for the asking price of $365.00, that is a lot better price to power ratio than any of the cold air intakes you can buy right now and they might get you a 10Hp gain.... most likely not...

If or when I do something like this, I need cold hard facts before I buy...

If anything, we should expect similar results to the E46 325...along those lines anyway.

325 for M54B25

330 for M54B30

Software alone is not going to give you 20HP / 25lbs-ft TQ on an M54. With CAI, less restrictive exhaust, AND software you might get a total of 15~18HP on a good day.

I don't see the point of posting those numbers without posting what the stock numbers are.

That's what makes this product look so fishy to me. Whenever you see them for sale, they never explicitly tell you what the power and torque gains are. If they were good gains, then they would definitely be advertising them like crazy to sell the product.

For the software and the CAI you're looking at about 750 bucks. From the results for the E46 325, I'd guess 7-10 HP at the wheels. So about $100/HP. That sound about right to everyone else?

The link you posted did show the stock dyno numbers (193.5 WHP, 185.5TQ), and then showed the performance gains (+8WHP, ~7TQ) on the same dyno chart that's done on the same day, 4 hours later.

so with the software and the CAI it got about +8 WHP. Is that good for about 500 bucks worth of stuff? Or would the better question be how much HP can i get for 500$??????

I think the better question is, how much other cool stuff can I get for $500? 'Cause $500 for 8hp is not really worth it. And for the extra few pounds the shark injector and the CAI add, how much power & torque are you actually gaining.

I can't believe people have put that much time, energy and research into products like this with so little benefit. :headbang:

First off, Jay I told you not to say s**t :)

I have an order in for the shark injector software. The software is supposed to be ready, but they either have not made / are back-ordered on the physical obdii programmer units they ship on. They said it should ship this coming week.

After speaking with Drew at TMS, the graphs above are not quite an accurate reflection of what to expect. They are misleading and from an old (<2003) 330i. However, this being a new product, there isn't much other info out now. He said I could expect more mid-range torque, and a small bump in top end HP, up to 10HP. This is in line with what other shark injector products are delivering. Its not a miracle, but it is $370 for a modest bump. I'm not interested in the top-end gain nearly as much as I am with what this software can add in the low and mid-ranges.

I'm still undecided on whether I intend to dyno test the software install. I have no affiliation with TMS and have no reason to dump out another ~$100 for the dyno time on top of the cost of the software. I know thats not what everyone wants to hear, but the best I can report will likely be my gut (butt) feelings on it, as well as mpg comparisons (I've been tracking MPG since I did the vanos seal repair).

So, I doubt its going to be a massive improvement, but its less than the costs of 1 dinan part, and the shark injector program has a fairly good track record so I'm willing to go shot-in-the-dark with it. Its not $500, its not a supercharger, but I'm hoping for a modest improvement. Not to mention, it is un-doable via the same programmer in the event it turns out to be a total crock or interferes with anything, like my SMG operation.

Here's to hoping. :fuelfire:

Actually, I made that post BEFORE you sent me that email.... I did not blow your cover....

I went to the website and saw that they now were available... I just asked if anyone had seen one in the wild..

I guess the timing sucked....
