Trip to Canada: Suggestions for sightseeing

Hello all,

My best friend is moving to Kelowna, Canada around August and I'm planning to visit him around September (after he moves and does all the hard work:lol: ).

I'm currently living in Seattle area and am planning to enter to Canada through Sumas. It is a ~300mile trip (one way). I don't want to drive off of my route too much since the main purpose of the trip is to see my friend and I'll only have the weekend so I want to spend as much time with him as possible. But in the mean time I'd like to know if there is anything I shouldn't miss on my way. Especially landscapes or historic places or any "great roads to drive".

One related question: My oil change is 1250miles away. I won't drive 1250 miles in a month but I'd prefer to have the oil change before the trip. How soon can I take the car for oil change under maintanence plan?

Check out Mosquito Lake Road. It's east off of SR-9 near Mt. Baker. It's not too far away from route to the Sumas border, and it's definitely a wicked road for some spirited (keep it safe, though) driving.

As far as oil change is concerned, you just let them know that you'll be doing a 5000mi trip. They can't say no to a covered interim oil change in that case.

My favourite route through the British Columbia mountains is on Highway 3. :D

This is the southern route and takes longer, but the road has a lot more twists and turns. Highway 3 will take you to Osoyoos in the Okanagan Valley where you turn off and drive north through Penticton and then follow the lakeshore up to Kelowna. :driving:

Watch out for fires, they're having a bad season this year.

Enjoy the drive,
Bill

Thank you guys! 2 more people suggested me to use Osoyoos. So I'll use Sumas when I'm going to Canada (since I'll leave Friday evening from Seattle and don't want to arrive to Canada too late). But when coming back to Seattle, I'll have more time and I'll use the longer Osoyoos route. :driving:

Thanks again!
