Trip to Birmingham in the ///M

Had to go up to Birmingham today for work, from just outside North London. Around a 240 mile round trip. I did drive pretty economically as hate spending loads on fuel when driving for work, makes the 45p per mile go further! But was still surprised that over the whole journey I averaged 32.4mpg. 85% I'd say is motorway. Which included about 15 mins of crawling in 1st traffic on the way there and another 10mins on way back. And last 10mins after coming off the motorway I opened the taps a bit and only dropped from 32.8 to the 32.4 I got overall. Very happy (and surprised) with that

Did a similar trip recently
From north of manchester to worcester and back, 90 per cent m-way @70-85 mph and ret 33 .8 mpg . 3.0ltr auto .happy with that

Thats seriously impressive.

Yeh I sat at 70ish with the cruise on as well. Was about a 20min stint at 50mph on cruise through an average speed check which I am sure helped push the average up.

Was more of an experiment to see how high I could get it on a run, and I was pleasantly surprised! My all time, which is only 1 month, average came up to 23.9 from 21.0 as well :P Here's to hoping the weekend is dry so I can get out in it and get that average down :D

you guys , get a prius; I bought the M with the knowlege that if i booted it the gauge is going to drop like a stone, I bought it to boot it and most importantly I bought it for smiles per gallon ,not miles per gallon !!   ...... :tumbleweed:

It's a tribute to a great engine that you can drive like a hooligan and get 10-15 mpg out on the track or on B roads then cruise home on the motorway at 70 mph and get 32-33 mpg

I didn't but it for the mpg either, obviously, but not a lot of opportunity to boot it on a rush hours runs on the m25 and m1 :poke:

My regular 'Ring trip at a steady 140kph normally results in over 30mpg, but that's only because we're in no rush to get there on a Friday evening.

I know I can get over 30mpg if I need to, but I rarely need to do so unless there's a petrol strike on and I have to eke a few extra miles outof the car.

My average since I've owned the car (75,000) miles is about 27mpg, and that includes commuting, city centre driving, Welsh/Peak District hooks, track days and at least two 3-4 day 'Ring trips with vmax runs on the autobahns.

I've owned ///Ms for 12 years and drive them as they're meant to be driven.
