Transmission light on/off

A lot of times I start my car and the transmission light comes on. I let it run for maybe 30 seconds. Then I turn it off, wait 10 seconds. Turn it back on and it goes off...

What gives?

Auto box?
When the light is on, do you get all gears or does it just default to one?
Have had that issue intermittently on wifey's 2.5i auto. I believe it is probably due to the switch on the side of the box under the car. Gets damp and messes about.

It’s the auto transmission switch at fault. They let moisture in due to where it’s mounted.My old E85 used to do it . I got a new one fitted for around £300

Same here, new switch fitted. Get it done as the fault will only get worse and potentially leave you stranded.

So... today I put it in reverse and I couldn't go backwards. Just nothing. That still a switch problem?
