Hi Guys,

I've had my much loved z4 3.0 for over a year now and I finally have a bit more money saved to trade it in for a z4 coupe. Anything I need to look out for on the coupes?
I'm ideally looking for a 2006-2008 model, manual, grey or dark blue. I'm going to take the car down to BMW to see what they will offer me for mine 54 reg, 32k miles, 3.0l, sterling grey, heated seats etc...
I'm guessing I can probably get a better deal privately but I'm not sure if this is the best time to sell...considering the sun comes out once every 2 months now till summer....

any advice would be great.

cheers

If you've owned a Zed for over a year then you know what to look for, etc.

Dealer will put you over a barrel trading in a Zed for a Zed, but as you say prices to sell are soft right now to sell private.

Best advice is to test the market at a few dealers asking for the 'price to trade' What they offer on yours and what they sell the new one for does not matter. It's the price difference and dealers will mess with you otherwise.

If you can't get a good trade then sell yours private knowing that as soon as you sell you can pick up a coupe in days as a cash buyer, else rent something for a week or 2 while you search.

cheers for the advice...like you say, I'll try a few of the dealers see what they have to offer and what kind of money I could get for mine.

I made the same move from Roadster to Coupe. It's a 'pleasant change' and the coupe is different enough to feel like you have changed.

The oddest thing (for me anyway) was the first time you see the rear view in the mirror though. Initially it will surprise you just how narrow the view is (but takes a whole 10 minutes to get used to).

Enjoy!

I switched my 2.2iSE (55) Roadster to 3.0SiSE Coupe (07) just over a year ago. I'm really pleased particularly as there are quite a few Z4R's around here but I can go for months without seeing another Coupe - it's a very exclusive club. Problems with my Coupe have been limited to the same issues with snapped springs as the Roadster. Also, take a close look at the front fogs as they are prone to mist up. When I had my Roadster I had the hard top on most of the time and after that (and a previous TT Roadster) I think I got convertibles out of my system. It is nice to drop the hood on a sunny day (or a crisp dry winter's day) but on balance I much prefer the Coupe although I know it's all a matter of opinion.

I got the Coupe when the bottom fell out of the market in Spring 2009 (it's improved since then) - it pays to hunt around and I got a really good deal from Stratsone BMW in Derby.

Other advice is the usual stuff - try to drive a few, don't fall in love with the first one you see and enjoy the process - there's nothing quite as much fun as buying a new car!

Cheers

I just recently changed from a 2.5SE to a Coupe. I think you will enjoy it and it does feel substantially different, at least from my 2.5.

I should really have sold privately as I didn't get a good deal from the stealer on my Z, I guess I am just too impatient and didn't want the uncertanty of how long it would take to sell.

Good luck and if you can you would be better off selling privately, at least give it a go for a few weeks advertsied on sale

IMO look at private sellers, could have went for a coupe at £16800 but mileage was a little high for me, now up for sale at BMW dealer at £19800 the choice is yours (buyer beware) :!:
