TPMS question

Hi, this is my first car with TPMS and I have a general question.. I have searched but nothing addresses my question.

My TPMS light came on, solid and yellow... the manual says one or more tire pressure is off..

so my question is, do I just need to check, refill and reset? or do I need to check for puncture too? Since it wasn't a red TPMS light, I figured I am ok?

TIA for the reply.

Was there a recent air temperature change? Sometimes my TPMS reacts to that. What model is your car? In the US, the 2007 and up have an in-tire monitor but I think most Euro cars are still based on the rotation speed of the tire.

If you got a yellow light, I'd check pressures and reset. If it happens again, then have them tested.

From the handbook:

1. The indicator lamp in the instrument cluster lights up yellow. The Flat Tire Monitor is malfunctioning or out of order. Have the system checked as soon as possible.
2. The warning lamp in the instrument cluster lights up in red. This visual alert is accompanied by an acoustic warning signal. There is a flat tire or a signficant loss of tire pressure.

So you have the yellow light on - try to re initialise and again from the handbook:

The initialization is completed while you are driving, and can be interrupted at any time. Initialization is automatically continued
when you continue driving.

1. Start the engine, but do not drive off
2. Press the button as long as you need to until the yellow indicator lamp in the instrument cluster lights up for a few seconds
3. Drive off.
Initialization is completed during the drive, without any feedback issued.

It can do no harm checking the tyre pressures. The TPM does not measure pressure as such but compares the rolling radius of each tyre, and under inflated tyre gives redfuced comparative rolling radius and this it what is detected.

Thanks for the reply, I have a 2007 z4 coupe. I checked the handbook and I think they separate the section for FTM and TPMS and I am not sure what's the difference.

I will check the pressure tonight and reset and see if it gives off any warning, but after the reset will it be ok to go above 50mph?

It's been cold for a few weeks so I don't think there was significant temp change.

it measures the difference between the speeds of the wheels, indicating low inflation if the speed is significantly different.

if yours has lit up, check the pressures and reset it and you should be fine.

if you have runflats, & you correct the pressure you'd get a light again if you had a puncture.

with all these things tho, be safe out there just in case

Thanks Andy, yes I have runflat which is what worry me the most as you won't be able to see the puncture right away.
