Total closure for windows on z4 coupe?

Hi all

Coming from my VW Corrado, which had this feature, I was surprised that when I locked my z4 via the remote, that the windows did not automatically close.

Is this not a feature on the z4 or am I doing something wrong?

Regards
Nick

Nick,

I just had this programmed on my 2005 model yesterday. It is possible but needs to be plugged into a BMW computer to do it. It can also be programmed for remote roof closure.
Dealer quoted me £45 but a local indi did it for free!

Ah I see, thanks Simon. Kind of annoys me that the dealer can programm these things and charge more money. I guess I will get it done when it has its service.

Is there no way of acquiring such software and using a laptop? This sort of thing was possible on my vw.

Regards
Nick

Actually with the closing you would need to put your key in the door and lock them and hold it there and everything should close. The unlock on the remote will open them but the remote cannot close them.

That's how it is in the US anyway.

Thats not the case in the UK, since mine was reprogrammed I just hold the lock button and it closes the roof then closes the windows.

Yea, I think the they don't allow it on the US cars because of the sue happy Americans could close the window on somebody and cause an injury. I helped my brother program his vw GTI to close with the remote. I'd really like to have mine programmed to close. I hope my dealer will do it for me. Very interested in getting software and interface for laptop to do these kind of things myself. VW has VAGCom which is a great programming tool for very cheap.

Excellent! Just checked and it works if you press and hold the lock button (badge)

I was hoping that it would do total closure at the touch of a button rather than holding, but I guess this is not possible?

It also works in reverse when opening if you press and hold the unlock button on the key all (both!) the windows will open, this was useful on my last e60 on hot (rare UK summer :D ) days

I guess this feature must be age specific to the car as it does not do it on the older models.

Frankly though I'd fit the Reinhold module and be done with it.
3 blips closes the windows and then roof (no holding buttons)
3 blips opens the windows then roof (again no holding)

In the event of a hardtop fitted it just does the windows.

So mine is now all set 1 blip drivers door, 2nd passenger and third if required for windows and roof.

For the sake of £50 to £80 (depending on how lucky/good deal you find) and 5 wires to fit it's not far off dealer price of programming (if it can be made to work that route)

I'd be really interested though in the idea of getting the software onto a laptop and connecting in myself to tinker

I never thought you could get remote roof closure programmed in, never worked on mine, although using the key in the lock did :scratchhead:

This would probably be more useful if the remote worked more than 5 feet from the car :headbang:

Any way to get the remote to work further than 5 feet away, beside putting the key on your chin? Maybe a modified antenna? It's strange, it locks the doors from inside my house while the car is in the garage, but won't unlock from inside the house. Maybe the code sent to unlock is more complex(longer) than to lock, rolling-code technology?

Neither did I, especially after the dealer told me it couldn't be done. But off I went to the indi who just laughed and said "watch this" and sure enough it worked!
Not sure if it is age specific, mine is a 2005.

Mine's an '06 (UK) facelift and the roof/windows go down with the remote but not up. Can only put the roof/windows up by puttting the key in the door lock and turning it.

I have a sheet of programmable key options and the "remote roof up" is not an option, likewise the manual states how to use the remote for lowering the roof but doesn't mention raising it.
