Torn between two Zeds

Have a look at your insurance, I'm 22, was 21 when I bought it, and the insurance for a 3.0i was 'only' £600!

The 2.5Si is 218 BHP, the pre 2006 3.0 is 231 BHP so there isn't that much of a significant difference, something like 0 - 60 half a second to 60.

OP I had a 2006 2.0i & didn't regret it one bit, they are great engines and yes the 2.5 is faster when you're driving flat out (very rare for most of us) but from an insurance & economy POV (presumeably high on the list of priorities at your age) its unbeatable, 40MPG easily in day to day driving...

I do have a 2.5 now & it does sound amazing, but when I bought the 2.0 4 years ago it ticked every box and was reliable, smooth, powerful enough and characterful so I wouldnt hesitate to recommend buying one - don't feel like you're getting a poor relation! :thumbsup:
 
Having just bought a 3.0si you will not regret buyin g it for the noise alone. I cannot stop revving the thing to hear it, it is sooo addictive!

What sought of mpg are you getting on it? I'll be doing a lot of town driving in it so I think it might be a quite expensive in fuel costs which I would like to avoid :|
 
Dunno about others but I got some quotes before, and the quote for a 3.0 was exactly the same as for a 2.5 - not sure if there's a difference between a 2 and 2.5 or if my quote was a one off like.

I get £1052 per year on either a 2.5 or 3.0 with 2 years ncb, car parked on the drive and a couple of family members as named drivers. I'm 20 at the moment (but for the purposes of the quote I pretended I was 21 as I will be when I buy the car).

I would be inclined to check the insurance difference, just in case :) I was suroprised how low the Z4MC was.

Thanks for the advise. Insurance and economy is defiantly high on my list, I just love how the z4 looks so speed isn't essential for me. Hopefully one day though I will opt for the bigger engines, maybe when I'm 25 or something :)
 
I have only had mine 14 days, and changed my mind several times before finally opting or what I have.
Realistically, what do you want a Z4, for..
I wanted a GOOD 2 seater, to enjoy the drive to work. Mainly b roads as it happens, so I wanted decent excelleration, but didnt really need anything more than the 2.0. So far, more than happy.
So just get the one that fit's your needs in life.
I am however, still on my first tank of petrol.. So yeah, the economies good!
Even with a crazy heavy right foot, and constant gear changes, I'm averaging 33mpg.

Which ever you go for, you'll enjoy driving again! :D

I just really like zeds and have wanted one for some time now. It dosn't need to be amazingly fast, although I wanted a car that is faster than my 1.8 diesal because that is frustratingly slow lol
 
A guy in a 2.0 Z4 had a go at me on the way home a couple of weeks ago. We were coming up to a roundabout and he shot round it after me and tried to race me on the exit. I was surprised how long he kept up but when we got to ahemillegalahem speeds the 3.0 just kept going.

I have no doubt that you would still be happy with a 2.0. You will always lust after the bigger engines though. It's what happens with any car and it's what manufacturers want you to do.
 
I just turned 24 and am paying £800 for a 3.0si... the insurance cost for me was identical to a 2.0i, so it was a no brainer for me!
