Top down forever?

How long can I leave the top down before damage is done? My car is in a garage all day and all night ans with the weather here being fantastic I have no incentive to put the top up - at least for a few weeks. Could this cause any damage? I've had the top down for about a week now. How long is too long? :driving:

I don't know if there really is an answer but i know if mine has been down for more than a day it sure makes a lot of creaking sounds on the way back up. Almost like it shrinks and has to be stretched out again?

The plastic window in mine seems to have distortions from being folded, they pretty much stretch out when top is up, but then in San Diego not much reason to put top up

Plastic window??? Do you have Z3?

Was thinking the same

Re the top down for long periods it says in the manual after Hard top use to bring the top up manually.

Personally i would put it up each night

My manual says that after a winter of having the top down (in case of using a hard top) you may need to help the motor if it struggles the first time you raise the roof. That says to me that you can leave it down for a few months although it does say it must be dry if you are going to leave it down for more than a day. There must be people on here who use a hard top. How long do they leave it?

I leave mine down in the garage every night once it is dry to allow it to dry out in the drainage channels and seals. Yuo want to feel how wet and slimy it gets in UK climates.

As for leaving it down. I clean mine, spray it and it goes down for 4 to 5 months in Winter. If the we get a clear spell in Winter and the hardtop comes off I'll put the roof up and down, but I see no reason at all to worry about it being down for months if it was packed dry.

I have mine down for month at a time in the garage, never a problem. It will probably be down now until April of next year. 8)

Wazzzzman, Do you baby your zed by keeping it in your garage until next spring? I have mine up in my garage under a car cover.

I do my best to baby everything I have. :) I have filtered air in the garage so there is not much dust. I just dust it off now and then. I will be doing things like changing the oil and possible brake pads and sparkplugs on it over the winter getting ready for a good spring run. :)

Wow. I can't wait to move to Denver so I can slide the Z4 around an empty parking lot covered in snow and ice. My baby is not babied. I wish I had the space and time for a summer car - lucky guy. Which leads me to a poll. See other thread.

:driving: Used in any weather, roof doesn't leak and the Z4 is well protected from rot.I do always garage mine at night.

My top is always down when I'm driving (no snow here) and I put it up when I park it in the garage every night. I don't want any creases in the top so I like to keep it up in the garage.
