Hi folks - this is probably a typical newbie q, but above the button to open the storage compartment there is another button, which doesn't seem to do anything? Just wondering if this opens some secret compartment like in the S2000? :)

i could never work this out either.

maybe if you press it at over 150mph it disables the limiter ? lol..

Nothing secret. It just releases a catch on the hood which keeps it pinned down when lowered, so if the electric motor were to fail for whatever reason you could push that button, and pull the top us manually.

D.

It's used with the manually operated soft top. With the soft top locked down in top-down mode, pressing this button activates a release, unlocking the top so it can be put up. With the power top [---correction---] it is used in conjunction with a red lever and pull string in the trunk to release the top from the lowered locked position [according to owners manual].

its a disposal for lit cigarettes. kinda like the ones they have infront of buildings, it works the same way. :driving:

I still have the button, but it is no longer connected to a manual release in the 07 model

Didn't the latter Z4's do away with the hold-open latch? I thought I read that somewhere...
You're right - but I don't think the button went away with the latch!

That was my point, I just didn't express it very well. The original post said that the button didn't seem to do anything... and he's right!

My last post here got me thinking, just speaking of fake buttons... I don't have the sport button, so I was wondering what it would be like to mount a fake button reading "eject", just for fun. It would have to be a high quality one to not look too cheesy. Anyone have an idea where I could find such a thing?

(Yes, I realize that it's a goofy idea. Still, the thought of it makes me smile.)
